    XP Displaying only 3 GB of RAM out of 4?

    I know the Max for a 32 bit OS system is 3.2 GB. why does XP only display 3 GB of RAM System Properties?

    who stole my 200 MB? :mad:

    It's called "hardware" and "system". Mainly your video, I would imagine.

    Most of my newer laptops have 4gb installed and under xp show 3 or 3.2 or 3.25
    You won't ever need the extra anyways so not to worry about it

    32-bit XP supports 4GB of physical memory addresses. However, some of these addresses are used for the BIOS, IO cards, networking, PCI hubs, bus bridges, and PCI-Express. 512MB worth are also consumed by your video card.

    hmm... for the video card, I was under the impression that the "nVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT 512 MB" has its own 512MB of dedicated video ram. It should not use the main ram. Am I incorrect?
