Hi, jus bought a HP nc6400, it came with windows xp home edition. I need to use the xp professional features such as ISS and the other networking features. Before i go and buy professional, how would i move the drivers and software that came with the machine over to the new installation.

ATM, with the machine hp have shipped certain software, like their security tools for the fingerprint reader which i would like to use on xp pro.

    Thanks for any help!

Burn the C:\SWSETUP directory to DVD, assuming HP does the same thing on their business line as their consumer line.

If you're up to it, I recommend using the RyanVM Update Pack to integrate post-SP2 updates into a new WinXP Pro install DVD. If you're really ambitious you can integrate drivers too but that's more work. Nice to have networking, video, and audio working from the get-go though. Use:

    spXXXXX.exe -pdf -fd:\\directory_name -s -e

to decompress a given HP driver archive to directory d:\directory_name.

Ok thanks but what is spXXXXX.exe?? i couldnt find it in the SwSetup folder.

Also, by copying the SwSetup Folder, the programs that would have come with my system, i.e. the ones HP packaged with it be copied as well or will have to do that seperatly?

Oh, sorry, HP's driver download filenames start with sp, like sp30125.exe. You'll want to download anything that HP has updated from the initial release. Two trains of thought collided at the station...

Most of the stuff HP included with your system is in the SWSETUP folder. The really big stuff like Microsoft Office (if you ordered it) should have come with its own CDs. I think everything that didn't come with its own CD is in SWSETUP. I didn't notice anything missing when I used it as part of a clean WinXP MCE install on my dv9000z.
