    hi,

I have a compaq presario V3033AU with a wonky DVD drive. it can read CD's well but not DVD. when a DVD is inserted, it keeps reading forever and explorer gets stuck. now windows doesn't boot and my recovery disc's are DVD's :(

Is there anyway to convert the 2 XP DVD's (with loads of junk in it) to a bootable XP CD? i've tried the bcd111 method but that doesn't work

After copying the contents of the DVD, say to another laptop with a working DVD drive or onto a USD harddisk, can I use that data to recover somewhow?

is it possible to boot these disc's using TFTP/PXE?

any help would be appreciated, ty :)

You will have to either get the DVD drive replaced, or purchase an external USB DVD drive. AFAIK there is no way to convert the HP recovery DVDs to CDs, and I do not think there is a way to make a bootable hard drive tool either.

TFTP/PXE isn't going to help any...

My first compaq had this exact same problem. It would only read CD's and rarely DVD's. I had no choice but to get it replaced.

First you might wanna check your drivers page if your dvd drive has any firmware updates.

If your still under warranty call up HP and see if they can send you a replacement. Its very easy to replace, only 1 screw.

Alternatively you can buy a dvd drive on ebay for about $30

You can always look on ebay and see if there are any DVD drives for your model on there, or as they stated above, buy a USB CD/DVD drive.
