Thanks! I dont know how I missed that,
Has anyone had a problem with weird sound? everything seems raspy after I installed the audio driver?
-
Glad you found the inf edits for the SM Bus & Ethernet though -
Dave thank you very much
All drivers recognize by windows XP on my 6500z.
Only problem is when i connect headphone it wan't disable speaker on my laptop. If sound is disable and i connect headphone it turn on the speaker.
I did not check when i was using vista so i don't know it is hardware problem or driver problem.
Any Idea? or Help?
TIA -
My unknown Devices for my laptop were caused by lack of Windows SP2. Once I installed sp2 all was fixed.
I could not get the webcam, or the 5 in 1 card reader to work without sp2 either, they both showed correct in device manager, but did not work.
My laptop is up and running, everything installed properly and functioning! -
Worked liked clockwork on a dv6646us. Everything works as good as a computer running a microsoft product can. There are lots of threads out there, but this one takes the cake.

I'm using the dv6607nr all the drivers work fine , thanks dave! But after a random computer crash it has caused xp to always play sound through the speakers, regardless of whether headphones or speakers are plugged into the headphone port. In the volume control selecting "mute all" mutes the headphones but not the speakers itself. Selecting mute under wave mutes everything including the speakers. Initially I thought it was a hardware issue until I installed vista and found it to be working fine. If it's not the hardware then it could be the drivers but I don't get why it worked fine for the first week. I find it strange for XP to suddenly screw up. I've formatted and reinstalled XP several times with no success. Something else I noticed is ever since it crashed, I'm unable to reset the cmos anymore and sometimes the computer boots up with the lcd off [blank screen but I know it's loading since I hear the beep when it prompts you for the password]. Also I noticed something strange, when i check "Speaker Volume" in sounds and audio device properties, the sliders are Center and Channel 2, instead of Left and Right...driver problem?
sound driver posted by dave
"Fixes issue where there is no audio output from the speaker if the notebook is rebooted/suspended with the earphone plugged in. "
i wonder if that affects it in any way? perhaps i should try an older driver
Does anyone know anything about this problem? Thanks -
Here is the solution to 'plug-in-headphone-but-speaker-not-turn-off' problem. (at least works on my dv6607nr):
(1) download another audio driver (34204.exe) from
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp34001-34500/sp34204.exe
(2) edit At8VEN5a.inf, add additional line in [Conexant] section using same technique (i.e. using your hardware ID). for example:
%HdAudioFunctionDriver.5045.DeviceDesc% = HdAudModel,HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_14F1&DEV_5045&SUBSYS_103C30CF
(3) run setup.exe. You are done!
Here, I also have another issue with video driver. I tried 156.72 and 163.75. In both cases, I cannot turn on 'hardware acceleration'. Otherwise, I get display screwed. All text will have black backgroud and some of them blink. If I have to disable hardware acceleration, everything is fine.
Anyone met the same issue? and how can i solve it? Thanks. -
got everything running with no red marks under device manager on a HP9608nr........however the display looks like crap........anything better out there??
-
also...........no sata drivers are listed under device manager.........should there be some? does the INF need to be tweaked for sata under forceware 12.15?
-
hey... awesome thread.... just to let everyone know i have been installing xp on my dv6500 x64 edition... and it works too!!! there are a few things different... but it follows suit!!.. had to get the x64 video drivers though... found them at the same place, just the x64 ones....
it's not completly working though...i still have 3 base system devices and 1 unknown... and the blue tooth is installed as such... but doesnt seem to work. ::cry: im trying to find some different drivers...
anyone have any ideas about this???? -
TheDave:
I followed your steps into this and really works! However i still have some issues with the Ethernet driver.Installed everything as you said and, Everything is fine but i get a "1394 Net Adapter" under my Network Adapters menu in the Device Manager. This showed up automaticly. This driver simply does not detect the plugged cable, there is no yellow sign into it either,at first glance seems to be working fine. I Really does not want to mess up with the other drivers now they are all working fine. Thank god still have wireless. Do you know anything about this? Have any suggestions or ideas in order to make it work?
Please let me know. Really appreciate u'r work.
Thanks!
-
i do not really understand the question, did you connect a power on firewire device at the other end of cable and it is not working?
if you just plug in the cable, there is nothing to detect.
if you want to network 2 pcs with firewire, it would not work without some 3rd party software. -
thanks a lot! was getting very frustrated. sorry I can't help you with your vide problem though, I haven't encountered anything like that yet. -
First off, A Thank You to everyone for their nice comments, and also for helping your fellow users.
It is sometimes difficult to figure out what exactly everything is, when it appears as unknown in Device Manager.
About all I can recommend is to look through all the items in the "Details" tab in device manager, some of which might give you a hint.
Another thing to try is go to the "Compatible Ids" on the same tab there, and enter some of the less complex looking Ids into Google, and you might come up with something too.
A lot of the devices I had to edit the inf's for already had a very very close Id listed in some of the inf's I looked through originally, and only required 1 or 2 characters change to actually get working.
For real (LAN) Networking, an inf mod was required to the nForce drivers (see post #2), and it installed this device:
NVIDIA nForce Networking Controller
From there, I could (and have tested) plug in a real network cable, and surf around my personal LAN at home here. -
i hav a dv6500, actual model number is dv6610ei but i just cant seem to install audio drivers. i have installed the " UAA - 1) Download & Install the (UAA) Universal Audio Architecture drivers:
sp33867.exe " BUT not solving the problem. Is my audio driver that much different to the dv6645us....? Any reply would b greatly appreciated -
With the 2nd part (actual audio drivers) you will also need to complete the inf fix(mod) to make sure the computer sees that hardware correctly.
Installing the UAA alone is only the 1st part of getting things working. -
hehe.... im stupid.. the only reason the bluetooth wasnt working, was because i had the switch turned off..... hah
found what those other devices were too... the card reader, and the quicklaunch buttons.... everything works now... !!!! yay.... -
Hi, could you help me please?
I bought a HP dv6607nr notebook, that came installed Windows Vista Home.
And I Installed the Windows XP Professional, and I don't see for anywhere the drivers such as: Modem, Network, Video, etc etc.
Please can you help me?
Thank you. -
-
I bought a presario F731AU.
Used ur guide.
It works perfectly!!!
But of course u'd have to change the id accordingly.
Thanx a lot Dave!!! -
Hi I have the same notebook, but with some problems.
I can't Install a Controller BUS; Audio; Processator; Modem Audio; Unkwonw device.
You did install it? can you help me?
-
Hi, yes I did it, but I still can't install the drivers for XP and the peolple from HP can't help me, I don't know if I will return the machine.
The software rest to install is: Bus controller; Ethernet Controller; Modem Audio; Unknown device.
Can you help me pleasee???
And bye the way Thanks to everyone to put all the available drivers for installing XP.
I really thank you! -
The people from HP aren't going to help you put XP on the laptop, they will only support Vista.
From the list of devices you list there, it looks like you did not manually extract some of the drivers, and then manually edit the inf files, and go through, and manually do the update driver routine.
Most of the steps in post #2 of this thread are not automatically done for you.
You will have to manually do some things (other than run a setup.exe).
Read through post #2 again, and see what parts you are missing from there.
Then ask specific questions about which parts you are having problems with.
Good Luck! -

hi, i have a dv6645us pavilion, i would like to know how to update the driver of the videocard? i download the driver 163.75 and doesnt work, nvidia show me an screen an says " you dont have that hardware or something like this" im very hungry with hp because the trouble of the drivers, does somebody can help me please??, and i would like to know, does somebody can use the button "Q" and "DVD" of the quick play? because in my laptop doesnt work with xp
-
I have a dv2615 notebook and have sucessfully installed most of the critical xp drivers..thanx dave for a gr8 thread!! now my problm is similar to the abv 1 regarding the conexant audio & modem drivers. The problm is tht my Device mngr is shwing only 1 Unknown Device with h/w id ACPI\HPQ0006, which after googling i came to knw is for HP Quick launch buttons. And in the Sound, Video, Game contrlr tree, it already has some preinstalled drivers for Audio Codec, Legacy Drvr , ...etc.
So, evn in order to knw my H/w id for conexant, i had to use Vista's(i hv dual OS) device mngr. They are same as GreyHarvest's , i.e :- the device hardware ids are
HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_14F1&DEV_5045&SUBSYS_103C30D6&REV_1001
and
HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_14F1&DEV_5045&SUBSYS_103C30D6.
I have modified both the audio and modem inf files, but am confused frm whr, in device mngr to gv xp a cmmnd to upgrade driver.
I am also attchng a screen shot of my device mngr.
Please Help!!!
BTW, after modifying the inf's , when i try to install thru the setup.exe file it gives a "Could not find Media Device..." error.Attached Files:

Is there something specific that is not in v156 of the drivers that the newer v163 will actually get you?
As for the "Q" and "DVD" buttons, they weren't important enough for me to get working again, since I do not watch/use DVD's and whatever "Q" is every single day.
Besides, I am not so lazy that I am unable to click on the Cyberlink PowerDVD shortcut in my start menu, and that I actually need a dedicated hardkey shortcut on the laptop for.
The Audio/Modem drivers have a critical order in which things must be installed. #1 is the UAA before anything else.
IIRC, This should cause the other devices to show up in the device manager as "unknown devices". Once they show up after that, then, and ONLY then, you can do the driver installs.
From your screenshot, the "Audio Codecs" are not a REAL hardware device, so you can not do a driver update on that item in the device manager. -
please see my post, #47 of this thread, these 2 buttons works in windows mce 2005, may work in XP too -
When the setup runs a screen with the following message shows up.
"Microsoft UAA Bus Driver for HD Audio Setup is preparingthe installshield , which will guide you through the EULA and the rest of the setup process."
After that it just dissapears ...without any Finish/OK msg or anything(not evn any error msg)..I donno y this is happening...?? -
You do know this is not a text message forum right?
Once I was able to read through that, here is my answer:
Even if you try the file linked in the start of this thread, does that not install either?
I looked, and when I run the install (even on my desktop test computer), it still installs all the way, and even asks me to reboot.
Nothing shows up in the add/remove programs icon from control panel though.
The only thing I see that shows up (at least on my test desktop computer) is the following directory:
C:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\UAA
Are you even seeing this path get created?
If that is not getting there, then there is a problem with the UAA install packages you have tried. My download was 54.2MB (from file properties), does your UAA installer seem about that size? -

Hi there,
Great thread! Thanks for all the info, finding it really helpful.
I have an HP dv6607nr that I got from Bestbuy during the holiday sales.
Vista has been a real pain! First it wasn't compatible with my scanner, and now I'm having problems writing to my external drive and even copying files from a CD!
I went through all the steps with tech support short of doing a full system recovery. The tech support person said that my problems where due to incompatibilities with either Nero or my video software (I use VLC)??
So I asked if I do a full system recovery, will I be able to use those programs at all then? And they said sure!
Well, I wasn't about to go through a whole system recovery just to find out if, by some magical alternate reality Vista was all of a sudden compatible with my hardware and applications, I figured if I'm going to go through all the trouble I'd rather downgrade to something more stable.
--------
So here's my question. I just wanted to make sure that with an AMD chip you don't have to slip stream anything into the XP install, is that correct?
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=170371
I guess that would mean I wouldn't have to fiddle with Nlite at all is that correct?
And the basic steps would be, make recovery disc, copy swsetup folder, install xp, install all the drviers mentioned on your page, and that's it?
THANKS AGAIN! -

something is wrong with my account, i can not read past page 5 of this thread. (missing post #51 to #85)
to LandonHell :
error 10 usually means you installed the wrong driver, since i rename the spXXXXX to chipset, i do not know which sp i am using right now.
i have DV9607us also, i post my INF below, if it still not working, try download another set of chipset driver from HP (maybe 9500Z?)

No, unlike the other thread about the Intel based units, a stock XP CD should work fine for your install (mine did).
This could be that XP has built in SATA drivers for the nForce based boards already, but I find that pretty unlikely.
It is probably much more likely that the Laptops based on nForce chipsets do not have SATA drives (HD/CDROM) used in them.
So a HUGE THANKS to the mod contacted (miner) and the admin (mujtaba) who was able to restore the missing posts from the thread!Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -
I am also guessing you have tried to manually start the Setup.exe that gets extracted from the HP downloaded file, located in your folder:
d:\SWSetup\sp33867\Setup.exe
And that goes no where as well?
I'm not sure what the reason would be for the installer not running correctly. I'm sure I don't have to ask if you are logged in to XP as the "Administrator" (or equal rights) account?
Thats about all I can even think of...
Other than maybe re-download, and re-run the file... -
ARGHH! I got everything working except what appears to be my audio device! I have been ALL over the web.
Again I have a Pavilion dv6607nr trying to run XP 32bit
The (UAA) Universal Audio Architecture installed fine, it installed and rebooted no problem.
When I tried sp35682.exe I got a 'could not find MEDIA' error.
Same for sp35335.exe, so I went ahead with the .inf edits which had worked great up to that point.
There is just one '?' item left in the device manager and it's labeled 'PCI Device'
I checked the details tab and found it's id:
VEN_10DE
DEV_055C
Which coincides with a report I ran with EVEREST which lists a PCI/AGP device in the debug section that says:
10DE-055C: High Definition Audio Controller [NoDB]
And its definitely nVidia because its also listed here:
http://pci-ids.ucw.cz/iii/?i=10de055c
I was still encouraged though because It had a similar SUBSYS_ to the ones you were using but, flipped around: SUBSYS_30CF103C
So I entered this the line in wis30B2a.inf:
%HdAudioFunctionDriver.Waikiki5047.DeviceDesc% = HdAudModel,HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_10DE&DEV_055C&SUBSYS_30CF103C
I go back to the device manager update the PCI Device to the folder and it says it cannot install this hardware.
So I went through and tried every softpaq I could find from HP:
sp35271 - Conexant for XP 64 3.30.0.52A
sp35683 - Conexant for XP 64 3.38.0.50A
sp32644 - High Definition Audio Modem Driver 1.00A
sp34386 - Conexant for AMD 3.30A
sp34200 - Conexant High Definition Audio Driver
I was really hoping the last one would work because it was the most recent.
The last thing I was hoping would work was I found an audio driver on the nVidia website:
http://www.nvidia.com/object/nforce_audio_4.62_win2kxp.html
and and updated version:
http://files.filefront.com/nForce+Audio+Driver+Win2k+XP+462+WHQL/;5069200;/fileinfo.html
But it didn't work! You would think a driver released by the manufacturer specifically for the operating system would work!
Well so I'm stuck. Any help? I think I'm going to crawl under chair now. -

Microsoft UAA Bus Driver for High Definition Audio
Do you see that item in your device manager under the "System Devices" ?
Also, if the UAA softpaq installed fine, can you delete the "unknown device" from device manager, and then tell it do do another scan (click the last icon in the toolbar of device manager) icon tool tip: "Scan for hardware changes"
What happens then? -
Just a small note, I am only a super-mod
-
Great sig BTW!Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -
Thanks for your reply,
The device is under 'Other devices' and it has a question mark icon with an exclamation point.
I tried uninstalling it and scanning for hardware changes and it just popped right back in the same place.
Last night I tried downloading Hackez's driver package here:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=165319
And installed the Realtek audio drivers. I added in the .inf line where I thought it might help and ran the update driver dialog through the device manager and still no luck.
right now I'm going to try reinstalling XP Pro. When I installed XP currently I slipstreamed a SP3 packet, so this time I'm going to do it as minimal as possible to see if that helps. -
This is the device details in the device manager
This is the section in At8VEN5a.inf:
Code:[Conexant] %HdAudioFunctionDriver.5045.DeviceDesc% = HdAudModel,HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_14F1&DEV_5045&SUBSYS_103C30B7 %HdAudioFunctionDriver.5045.DeviceDesc% = HdAudModel,HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_14F1&DEV_5045&SUBSYS_103C30BB
Code:%HdAudioFunctionDriver.5045.DeviceDesc% = HdAudModel,HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_10DE&DEV_055C&SUBSYS_30CF103C
Thanks for your help. -
so it would not work
my best guess is 055c is a system device should be solved by install MS UAA driver, try to download and run UAA SP33867 from HP again.
after you run UAA there would be couple more problem devices, one of them would be 0545, do the good ole inf trick again
good luck -
I did a reinstall of xp and started over and still no luck. I installed the UAA again no problem, but afterwards the only device left is still just the PCI Device in the "Other devices" list, which is a 055C device.
I tried the inf again on sp35682 making aline for both an 055C device and 0545, still nothing.
I've been pouring over this other thread. They say in step 10. to install the WDM Drivers, and that they are the sound drivers. I checked their driver download pack and it looks like it is the realtek drivers, which I think I tried at one point. But maybe WDM Drivers is refering to something else?
The instructions seem kind of vague, but they mention at step 21. that you should have sound after installing a synaptics driver, the quicklaunch drivers, the wireless drivers and assistant, and bluetooth. Is it possible I need to make sure I install all those drivers even though I don't have bluetooth?
This is really starting to undermine my confidence in reality. !_! -
THANKS for posting the screenshots too, that helps quite a bit.
I'm curious, after you installed the main UAA package, do these files show up on your system:
C:\Windows\inf\hdaudbus.inf
C:\Windows\inf\hdaudio.inf (less important, but I am still curious)
If those files are there, I am curious if you could post their contents in a CODE block please.
If they aren't there, I will try and post what you need, but I doubt I can get everything needed for that. -
Thanks for your responses, I actually figured it out!
It was the SP3 update that was conflicting with the UAA sound driver. I just kept racking my head because the more details I was finding out about the sound drivers and the audio device kept telling me it should work. I glanced through a few posts that mentioned how Windows updates have screwed up devices here and there, so when I did a search on '"pci device sp3" it finally showed up! And on an Eee Asus board too! So that was it. Finally!
EeeUser ASUS Eee PC EeePC Forum / no audio -- PCI Device -- Fixed
I did try to do a clean install of XP without the SP3 slipped in, but for some reason when I ran the install with the same product key it wouldn't work?
Thanks again for your help, it definitely kept me going. -
...I had a yellow exclamation mark on PCI drivers icon(which i have seen in various forums tht many ppl have). All I did was right click>update driver> and then instead of manually selecting the location of the inf file, i let windows do the automatic installation ->"Install the software automatically(Recommended)" option. And what next do I see to my utter surprise(pleasant though!
)..The process automatically started to install the UAA drivers..after this updating the conexant audio&modem drivers(with modified .inf's) was a jiffy!
And what's more...the sound that i'm getting out of XP say for the same mp3 is nearly 3 times louder and clearer with better bass as compared to dumb vista..On searching for a solution on google, i found that many ppl in different forums had exactly the same issue as mine with the UAA drivers..Hope this helps..
now the only tiny issue in my XP is that the vertical scrolling bar on the right side of the touchpad isn't operational..but i am sure that can be easily solved with a driver update...even hp has a driver for the touchpad for this model for XP, but right now the link isn't active/working...will try smtm later..
anyways thnx, esp Dave for all the useful inputs and driver inf edits..cdn't do without them!
