    Hi! This is Apoorva.

I have recently purchased an HP 530 Notebook with 160 GB WDC SATA HDD.

Now, the issue is that when I try to install Windows XP on this notebook through a bootable XP disc, it is unable to find the SATA HDD.
Alternate to this issue is to load the SATA Controller drivers by pressing F6 during setup but unfortunately, I could not do that b’coz my notebook does not have a floppy drive.

So, I decided to Turn Off the SATA option through BIOS and then, XP detected the SATA HDD due to which, the installation was smooth & successful.

Now, my question is that once all this is done, if I now Turn On the “Enable Native SATA” option through BIOS, then my XP won’t detect the SATA HDD again and instead, it reaches the XP boot screen and restarts automatically.

Does anybody on this forum have a solution to this?

For your information, I have also installed Windows Vista Ultimate on this notebook and turning the SATA option On or Off does not matter to Vista. I hope if this piece of information helps anybody in guiding me ahead with an effective workaround to my issue.

Thanks in advance for your help and taking time to go through my issue.

You need drivers for that.Either slipstream in XP cd or use it via floppy during installation.

You still need to install the SATA drivers for XP to recognize the HDD. Disabling native SATA was just a temporary solution allowing people to install the OS. The next step would be to install the SATA drives which can be downloaded from Intel or HP. Install those and then enable the SATA support in the BIOS. Look at the stickies, there were threads detailing this step.
