I'm not sure how your model is equipped - but I just set up my sister-in-law's dv9408 (from Best Buy - I may have the model # slightly off) two weeks ago. It has the Nvidia 6150 graphics/Nvidia chipset which made it easy. One caveat though - I used a spare copy of XP Pro which I slip-streamed the SATA drivers onto. There are a couple of good posts here in the H-P - Compaq page - I just followed their directions. Oh - I used the Windows Anytime Upgrade DVD, which are being included with H-P's again, to put Vista on after I installed XP. As far as XP drivers - check the device manager in Vista and note the chipset, graphics, sound and modem/etc device names. Then, I just went to the H-P site and found a similar model laptop, which had XP drivers, and downloaded and used those drivers - no problems at all. Good luck...
