Has anyone has success installing XP on a DVx7xxT? I used a service pack 3 windows xp disc (which is supposed to have the 888111 hotfix in it) I also installed the UAA driver from the tutorial above and used everything from version 1.34 to 1.84 (latest) driver from Realtek. I also tried "update driver" from within device manager to no avail. My sound still does not work after all of this. Is there any fix or do I need to try reinstalling XP with SP2 and then try again? Everest said my audio hardware is "Realtek ALC268 @ Intel 82801HBM ICH8M." Thanks a lot.

Rule - I wish you the best of luck - but I don't think your 6700 is going to work well with XP. When I loaded XP Pro on my (now sold) dv2700 - I had to hit F7 to bypass ACPI - otherwise I kept getting BSOD's. I understand that H-P has tinkered with ACPI in the BIOS to prevent XP from working correctly. I couldn't ever get the sound to load correctly - and XP couldn't turn the system off. It would come to an (old!!) XP screen saying its now safe to turn off your computer. I hope you crack the code on this but it doesn't look good from what I have seen.

I'm not having any problems with ACPI, which if you had to skip it during installation explains why you were getting the windows 98-esqe "now safe to turn off your computer" message. ACPI is what the BIOS uses to allow the operating system to control power management.

I'm really just hunting a way to get the sound working, everything else works fine. Its not as quick startup as I would've expected, but still faster than Vista, and shutdown is as expected, much better than vista.

If anyone else has any idea, I'd appreciate the help.
