System: HP dv6000cto MCE
Can anyone verify the basic XP copy/burn utility to drag and drop files ordocs
(or "send to:") to the dvd (Edrive actually works on their laptop. I'd like to use it but after dragging the files over to the DVD drive window and selecting the option to burn them, I'm getting "no disc in drive or disc full" errors. (Confirmed the DVD is empty) If I close the window, the files disappear and when I try to copy them to the drive again I get "error copying file; cancel/retry at which point I'm either in a loop when selecting "re-try" or cancel of course closes the window. HP's techs have told me the following today: "That's not supported, use Sonic", "Re-install the O/S" (what else is new?) or try a blank CD instead of a DVD." "Try a "-R" DVD instead of a +R DVD" I figured I'd come here and ask if anyone else uses this utility successfully. It would be nice to burn files just using drag and drop to the drive....SONIC is a real PIA to use.... Thank you

Use any one of these programs: http://www.videohelp.com/tools?s=16#16
CDBurnerXP Pro works pretty well.
And of course there is Nero. -
Have you tried Windows Media Player?

Haven't tried using Media Player and realize there are other add-on apps out there that will do this, but what I would really like to know is whether the XP routine works for anyone else out there? It's a nice simple was to copy files to a dvd or CD (if it works). Starting SONIC and browsing, dragging, pushing buttons etc etc etc is a PIA.

Simply said XP burning software is for making coasters. Use real burning software!
-
XP doesn't burn DVD's via drag n' drop natively! only CD's.
and I agree it's a conveinient way to copy files to disk! I haven't made a coaster using it yet.
BTW: I also have Nero, Roxio, Sonic & DVD Shrink32 installed. -
I've had good luck with DeepBurner

Xp doesnt burn DVD only CD's to Burn DVD you will need a seperat software -
Thanks to all for the clarification. Using CD's is no problem if the utility works. What amazes me is that HP's techs didn't have this simple answer and for 2 out of three of them the answer to me was to re-install XP via one of the recovery options. I'll give some credit to the other one: he suggested trying a CD to see if that worked before re-installing.
