Is it possible to get the 64-bit version of XP on my V2000Z? I know I will need to partition off the drive to dual boot. How do I make a second partition? I am going to burn a copy of the x64 trial onto a CD. Once I have a second partition, how do I install x64 on it? I found the drivers on this page:

Help much appreciated!

Don't see why not. You can use Partition Magic to make a second partition within Windows. Or you could re-install XP and make two partitions while doing it.

These drivers are from another product and wouldn't work with my V2000Z. Nevermind.

Why wouldn't you be able to get it running? 64bit O/S was made for the 64 bit processor. Use a partition tool (Partition Magic is most well known) or do a fresh install and partition then. Either way should work just fine. Let me know how it runs cause I am in the process of securing a copy.

There is thing called drivers, they're written in 32-bit. I have to get 64bit drivers for my sound, video, wlan, etc. to be able to do anything. I don't even know if my software will run.

Many softwares written for 32bit version may not work.
I would suggest you to wait for while. 64bit video driver is available from ATI, I think LAN driver is available, not sure about Broadcom wireless( works on 64Bit linux with some tweaks), Audio may also work.
Anyways you need more patience to do that( I doubt if you want to go thru all this searching of drivers and trouble shooting). -

HP doesn't support XP X64 on their notebooks - only on a few of their desktops. The chances of them supporting it on the notebooks are slim to none.

I'm thought the initial question had to do with getting the O/S alone on the computer. In terms of getting drivers to work that's a whole different story and if that's what you had meant then I apologize. XP 64bit will not support 32bit drivers at all. Which means you can be in trouble with a bunch of hardware. In some cases you might have to wait and other cases they might not be making drivers for it at all. You can probably do a search and see which drivers are in the process of being produced or are already out there. As for software, I don't see why running that should be an issue. XP 64 can run 64 bit programs right alongside 32 bit programs with no issue. It's the same thing that the old windows O/S's did in terms of running 16 bit programs alongside 32 bit.

I don't know, ask HP.

You can run it just fine on the v2000z. Drivers are a problem, but most of them are available. I got everything working fine. I don't used XP64 now because the software just isn't there. I couldn't even find a good firewall for XP64 at the time. Most of the drivers are available here: http://www.planetamd64.com/index.php?showtopic=11761. That site also has lots of other useful information.

I was on the phone with HP for four weeks with the 64-bit issue. Trust me, they aren't supporting it.
On their AMD64 business desktops, they support it. I'm not 100% sure about their consumer level.
As long as you can get drivers, you won't have a problem running XP x64 on an HP. Just don't expect HP to help you out. -

Why do they suply 64-bit processors without support 64-bit OSes?

You got me. That's what I argued over for four weeks with them. I wrote a formal letter to the president and everything. In the end, they only sent me some free stuff...pretty dissappointing.

What free stuff did you get?
