I've read reviews... But I want to hear when it's paired with the AMD 4000+ and at least a gig of memory. Anybody try it and if so how was resolution? FPS? Online? Just some facts about the 200M and half life 2... Looking at the R4000 for price reasons and my brother has a zv5000 with the geforce 440 go with 512 ram, and I thought that was fast. Heres a PCI x16 chip set that HAS to be faster than the 440 and by the feel of the zv5k I thought it would play HL2 decently...

But I digress... Need some facts... thanks!

    WOW!!!! Here me out...

I have currently on my tower:

    Pentium 4 2.6 GHz
128 mgb nvidia 5200 (not the ultra)
    512 ram
pretty much, a crappy gateway with a new gpu and upgraded ram...

I run half life 2 on 800 x 600, with around 50 fps... Not bad at all... I ran a 3dmark05 on my comp and I got a score of 197...

    197!!!!!!!!!!!

    THATS HORRIBLE!!!

So Looking at these 770 numbers is a vast improvement for me... I think it's safe to say half life 2 isn't gonna be half bad on this thing... Not to mention the 4000+ adding in some extra butt kickin... I wouldn't worry about this lappy not supporting half life 2...

ps: that 3dmark has to look awesome if ur computer doesn't play it like a slide show...

I think you are "spot on" wedge. Your 5200 is not a directX9 card, so I could assume the reason of the score...however the average scores for a 5200 is about 200-300. Real world performance is where it is at. With a Athlon 64, and at least 512M of ram..I would expect no problems running Half Life 2. Bumping the quality down to medium and 800x600, there should be no problems. It seems Half Life 2, at that level of detail, would probably bottleneck the processor and not the GPU. Half Life 2's physics and crazy AI puts some stress on the CPU..which a Athlon 64 should be able to handle with no problems.

I don't see us cranking it up to full detail and running 1280x1024 on this GPU however...

HL2 will play smoothly on whatever semi-modern hardware you have. It's very good at scaling to fit your machine. It's smooth on my zv5000z. It'll look considerably better on a zv6000.

I can't even run 3Dmark05. It complains that the GeForce 440 Go is too ancient. HP could have used a GeForce 5200 Go, it was out, but nooooo...

    Hi Guys,

    Just thought I'd chime in.

I bought the r4000 just a couple of days ago with the following specs:

    AMD Athlon 64 3200+
    512 MB Memory
    80 GB 4200 rpm
    DVD-/+RW
    15.4" screen with the Brightview

and when running 3dMark05, I got a score of 686, so the 4000+ with a GB of RAM should do just fine. As for the nVidia 440 being too ancient, I read somewhere that 3dMark05 requires a 128 MB vidio card or better.

Hope you guys like your new machines.

    Well I'm ordering :)

    4000+
    gig ram
    128 mgb 200M
    bluetooth
No dual layer (no need, too expensive)
    Bright view
    80 GB 5400
    12 cell...

with some help from APP it comes to $1285.82 which is by far the best price I have ever seen for the monster I'm ordering... I wish I had the money for 2 gigs of ram... I'll find a way to upgrade later if I find it necessary...

Thanks Brian and Ikmosa, both of you have helped a lot!
