Hi,
I'm going to be states-side in about a week and I saw these great deals on hp's envy 14, selling for about USD750 which is an absolute steal when converted into .
I want to get a new laptop sooner or later anyways since my current machine is absolute rubbish.
Nevertheless, does it make much sense upgrading from the XPS M1330 (see signature) to the envy 14? (After all, the envy 14 has been on the market for nearly a year now).
Can anybody tell me how much bigger the hp envy is? I've already used sizeasy.com to compare the dimensions but I'd like some real-world feedback.
thanks!

The Envy is definitely a btter machine than the XPS you have.
-
Well, I think that's a given.
But does it make any sense to jump on the envy bandwagon even after it's been on the market for so long -
You should wait for a possible SB refresh...
-
okay, well the thing is that the envy 14 is currently on sale for 750 and I'll be in the states. :/
-
Oh, didn't read the 750$ part.
i5 = better battery life, switchable graphics
i7 = roughly half the battery life of the i5, no switchable graphics
Try to find a refurb with the radiance display if you can, it's an extremely high quality screen.
If you don't need great performance in upcoming games (next 2-3 years), the envy will be fine for a long time, it's certainly a huge upgrade from you XPS M1330.
The envy is a lot wider than the M1330 because of the 16:9 screen, and I think it should be as thin or thinner than the back of the M1330. It's easy to carry around and size shouldn't be much of a problem
Yeah, the envy is a steal at 750$ -
Yeah, I probably won't be gaming too much but the M1330's been struggling when watching divx movies and reading pdfs and the likes (which is ridiculous to be honest).
I don't think I can find a refurb at that price point, even less with the radiance screen.
I think I'll stick with the i5, I don't really have a need for the i7 and you're def right that battery-wise the i5 would be the better choice anyways.
I'm really tempted to hop on this sale right now, I'll have to think about it a bit more, hopefully I can still sell this m1330 for a decent price.
Thanks for the info eafd! -
Being a fellow EU citizen and knowing the price I paid in the UK for my E14 - equivalent of $1600 I would not wait a second and buy one for the price you can have one from the US.
What will it be worth upgrading to SB if you do not game but pay twice the price in the EU? -
Do what I did. Buy the Envy now for the discount, it will take a while to get to you, after you get it, you have 21 days to return it. All rumors point to a refresh in early May, so if you think the refresh is worth getting, you can return your current Envy for a refund and buy the new one.
I actually started a topic asking others if the refresh would be worth it, and I think there's another one with even more replies somewhere on the first page, if you're interested
