I still have not had time to call HP regarding my optical drive not opening, but I will; I'm just soo busy now writing research papers and lab reports...
BUT NOW...Every time I type, the blue lights of the quick launch buttons blink on and off continuously. If I hold down the S key, the lights go off completely. All the keys on the right side of the keyboard make the lights go out, but the left side seems to be fine. This is so annoying, you have no idea Is anyone else having this problem?
I AM NEVER EVER BUYING HP AGAIN!
-
Sounds like it might be a motherboard problem. Try reinstalling the Quick Launch Buttons program and keyboard drivers to see if that helps...just in case it is a software issue.

Not really. Mine has been working perfect, and from what I hear and know (friends have that laptop also), theirs have been working perfectly (exactly why I got one in the first place).
Let's put it like this. Out of Every product a company releases, some of them are going to be defective. So happens your pretty unlucky. As far as most of the HP's go (for laptop's at least), they're pretty reliable and really good. I mean, what other laptop would be better (other than alienware, but I'm not made of money, don't know about you, dell and sony need to get they're battery act together, etc.), but I would just say you and a couple of other people are a isolated case. Put it like this. Go to the home page, Scroll all the way up, look all the way to the left. The 2nd laptop on that list is a hp dv6000t, which is from the same line as your laptop. For it to be there, there has to be a reason for that. -
my laptop list
4 Compaq armada's(all four killed)
1 toshiba Satalite a70-dd1(pressed power button, then the fact that is a toshiba kicked in and...long story 6 repairs and after 5 monthsof torcher; dumpster time!)
Acer Aspire 3503 1.3 years old and still boots every time.
yes some companies product lemons, some more than others but all still do it. if this the only porblem you are having you are not doing bad....
call HP emeditaly ask for a quick fix, or a replacement or money back...
how old is the sytem? if it is reletively new, ask for your money back or a diffrent series, anything goes in the first 3 months. that laptop is going to give you problems as long as you own it. -
Another problem!!!! I was just typing a paper and my screen suddenly went black for a minute, and then it came back on...luckily my paper was still there!
Have any of you heard of problems like that happening before? If so, do you know what it's caused by?
blazin_it_alwyz and yuio, this is not the only problem I've had with this computer or with HP. I have had Gateways my entire life and never had any problems, but as soon as I got HP, things went downhill.
My optical drive in this computer refuses to work sometimes. I recieved my computer in early September, so it's not that old. I've also had minimal keyboard issues, and now the quick launch buttons are blinking like crazy, and the screen just went black! It also gets waaaay too hot, and I sometimes have to turn it off for a few minutes because it seriously feels like it's going to burn my desk.
I recieved my first HP computer, a dv8000t, back in late July. I had to return it after one week of use because the keyboard was so screwed up. This is only my second HP computer, and I haven't even had it for 2 full months yet! I also tested out various store models of the dv8000 and dv5000 series and i found that 4 out of 5 of them had the same keyboard issues as my dv8000t, and the keyboard of one model (a dv5000) didn't even work at all!
I really want to return this computer, but I have everything I need installed on it already... HP probably won't even take it back, but I'm going to try my hardest... I'm so sad!!! -
Man, you just have some really, really, really bad luck. Also, store models tend to be buggier, they're not treated well.
-
Try updating your drivers -
you never know fedex could of messed it up i dont know how they do things but i used to work for ups and they threw everything around no matter what it was, just a thought
-
the blue light of my quick launch buttons has completely died.... what the heck? i paid so much for this machine and it's falling apart!!!!

You really should call HP. You have a warranty for a reason.

Original poster: I feel your pain. Good luck with HP's customer support. I've been dealing with them for the better portion of this year and yet to have any results. I'm never buying another pre-manufactured Windows PC again. I plan on keeping a small form factor PC for my PCI TV tuner for as long as it is supported. But after that I am done with Windows and how terrible PCs like HP systems are.

First of all! those problem you see are not normal that is a total defected one. You know every company has a few; however, I heard HP do take good care of those customers. Sometime after you send in for repair they even give you free upgrades is what I heard. Of course if you keep typging report on the comp eventually you comp will die and files all gone. So stop complaining and just call them for replace NOW!!!

You know, NO company has consistent support these days. You either get the best support ever, or the worst. I mean, my V2000z was fixed in one day, and sent back over night, quite opposite of your support. They even fixed some cosmetic problems. Nothing in this world is 100% constant.

I just got off the phone with HP. They tried to tell me that my problem was due to the fact that I upgraded my OS from XP Home to XP Professional.
That is BS because the Quick Launch buttons were working fine until recently, and I upgraded the system when I first got it. I reinstalled the drivers from the website, and I'm still having the same problems! Absolutely no fix at all....
Awhile ago, I posted because HP told me that my warranty (3-year biggest one I could purchase) was voided because of the upgrade to the OS. At the time, I called because I was having problems with my optical drive not opening. Despite a long conversation on the phone last time, the problem still exists. And the phone conversation today didn't help me at all either.
They tried to tell me that it's an issue regarding OS and driver compatibility. Even though the drivers on hp.com say they work for all versions of Windows XP, he told me that because I now have Professional, the drivers wouldn't be compatible because I purchased the computer with Home Edition... Um... That's crap.
So, basically, I have no fix; my computer is still a piece of junk, and HP won't help me at all.... I'm going to take my computer to the computer guys at my school, and see if they can help. If not, I am calling HP and trying my hardest to get a replacement....
Does anyone else have any suggestions?? -
Here's my post on another thread regardng problems with HP with some suggestions:

Next time you talk to customer support (and if it's not resolved to your satisfaction), you might also very nicely and very neutrally say that since HP isn't working to resolve the issue that you will have to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau in Silicon Valley. Here's the link to their page where you can file a complaint:
http://www.bbbsilicon.org/
A lot of companies do take their customer service seriously. They often don't know how bad their customer service is, though. Better Business Bureau and/or writing to corporate headquarters will often get the issue resolved very quickly.
Good luck. -

As I said months ago, if I had called Apple with a problem regarding USB speed on a system that was only 3 months old they would have told me to drive to the closest Apple store and had everything already setup for me to exchange it for a new system when I walked in the door. But yet I still haven't heard from my original HP case manager in 4 months. Their customer service is absolutely terrible. -
I feel your pain man. I got a HP paperweight too. The thing was messed up from the start yet I stuck with it. I lost 100 of gig's of anime but I stuck with it and finally it's unfixable b/c of electrical issues. If you put the plug in there is a spark and it turns off, the battery is dead and since the spark messed it up I cannot charge it. No one wants to touch it (afraid to be electrocuted) and HP just told me to do what they've told me to do before, erase the harddrive and start over. I hate HP because I wanted this laptop to go though HS->college and it only went for one bloody year and a half full of problems!

Try reinstalling Windows XP pro, to see if that fix the problem. Since most of the time it is driver/ software issues, that just can get solve with doing a recovery. I learned this with my old hp zv5000z, since one time I had problems with headphone(when I the headphones are plug in the computers speakers kept playing). And after I did a recovery it got fixed, and even the leds that went off for no reason came back to life. So I wish you good luck and I hope you take this advice.
