I just downloaded the IDT sound driver from HP's website and that seemed to fix the erratic volume control touch pad on my dv5z. It is very precise now...touch the plus or minus side and the volume goes up/down incrementally. slide your finger across it and the volume changes much more rapidly.

Just thought id let everyone know, im sure a lot you guys are having the same problem.

I think I have heard of this problem from other dv5 owners ;)
Was this an updated patch/driver or just a re-install?

It was a driver update for the IDT sound driver
