you need the preview catalyst 11.10 drivers and it apparently does ok at whatever the automatic settings are (haven't tried it yet)

Downloaded preview catalyst 11.10 drivers, and it seems to play well on the auto detected settings (mostly medium). The game is still a bit buggy, but it was nothing I didn't experience in the xbox version.

    I have the i5 SB Envy 14 with 4 GB ram (2020nr).

Download TRIXX and tell me if it lets you overclock.. you can see if it works if the voltage can be changed.. if the slider isnt movable on the voltage then its a driver problem..

please help me narrow this down.

    thanks :D

    This is what I do:

    1. download stock AND latest driver
    2. disconnect from internet and shut down
    3. go to safe mode.
    4. go to device manager and remove the drivers for both intel and ati cards and choose not to save the driver software. (for 2nd gen, idk if intel is there)
    5. restart.
    6. open any ati driver update setup file and choose remove all ati software.
    7. restart.
    8. install stock.
    9. restart.
    10. install latest driver. (11.10 can be found here under preview drivers.

I am playing BF3 at x768 resolution with auto settings and no lag/hicups at all

Ill try that. Im on a clean install of Windows but went stock->11.9->11.10.

Certain parts play fine then all of the sudden everything drops to extremely low fps and slow running and everything.

    Redid everything and QUIT F.LUX.

Everything seems much better now. Thanks

Hey ironman43, first thanks for keeping the Envy 14 up to date with your ATI drivers ^^
Then, do you know if there's a possible fix for Rage for the Envy 14 ? Each time I tried to install it, it comes with an error...

you're welcome, and this is what I got so far for Rage:
AMD Catalyst? - Rage Performance Driver, people had success installing on mobility so give it a try.
The above has the 11.10 preview driver with it so I believe you have to go from 11.9 or lower to it but not sure since I have not tested.

But installation problems shouldn't be from the driver unless it prevents install based on criteria of graphics card. Go to windows update and make sure you have all the visual and c++ updates then try installing.

EDIT: and it looks like the 11.10 preview driver version 2 is out that has the above driver's Rage performance
    http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles/Pages/GPU122AMDCat1110PreDriverV2.aspx (testing currently..)

    EDIT2:
    AMD Display Driver
    Final Status: Success
    Version of Item: 8.901.2.0000
    Size: 90 Mbytes
I will update the driver thread to include this. go ahead and install version 2 of 11.10 preview driver.

Anyone tried playing Caspian Border 64 player. Even at the lowest settings and resolution it's pretty much unplayable. I get max 20fps and avg 10fps. I'm using 11.10 v2 drivers.

I play it at 720p no lag.

It WAS lagging on version 2 of 11.10 because I updated from 11.10 version 1 so I uninstalled everything and went stock > 11.10 version 1 and now plays perfectly. 11.10 version 2 is an update for Rage performance and I installed to test if driver installed but if you dont play Rage, dont install and stick with 11.10 version 1 for BF3

you might have to make sure the drivers actually installed (showing 8.901 or w/e in the driver properties) because sometimes I know my installations wouldn't actually update my drivers.. I installed the preview drivers over the latest stable release with no problem, didn't have to go from stock to preview.
