I just purchased a HP dv6t qe. For the initial purchase I did not get an extended plan.

I am thinking about getting the "HP 2-year Care Pack House Call Service with Accidental Damage Protection for HP Pavilion Laptop PC" but have not experience with the effectiveness of HP warranties.

I have had Best Buy, Office Depot, etc. warranties and they were always well worth it. If a camera, for example, was not repairable they would always give a credit for the purchase amount.

Any input on the HP warranties would be appreciated.

From what I understand you can purchase the first year, any warranty. You probably cannot have a claim within a certain amount of time though, to prevent someone from dropping there laptop, then, getting the warranty. Is this right?

You are right, you can get the warranty anytime. But they kinda get you if you don't buy it immediately. For example, say you wait 6 months before you buy the extended warranty. You decide to get the 3 year warranty with accidental damage protection. That warranty would start on the initial date you got your laptop, not 3 years from that date. So you'd essentially be buying an extended warranty for 2 years and 6 months.
