    Hello everyone,

To start off, I bought my laptop (in my signature) about a year ago. The day I received the notebook, you can tell it's made of very cheap quality plastic. It even had minor flaws that didn't bug me too much.

As I kept using it, the right hinge began making a "cracking" noise every time I open/close the lid. Once again, it didn't bug me much knowing it's made of cheap quality plastic. Well sure enough, about a couple of weeks ago, I open the lid, and the hinge makes a loud cracking noise, and it comes off it's place. and the hinge casing from the back falls off. Note, the computer is fully functioning, the screen is NOT damaged. The only damage is the hinge which made it really tough for the screen to close.

Now I spoke to HP (normal warranty, no accidental) and they asked me to send it in. I tell the rep that I'm not sure what will happen if I close the lid because I've been leaving it open so it doesn't damage it anymore. He says that's ok just go ahead and send it and we'll take a look at it. When I go ahead and close the lid (this is after I back up all my data - proof that it's working just fine, so it hasn't been dropped) the screen shifts so the screen and the keyboard aren't lining up correct. I think the biggest mistake I made was not take pictures of it to just show that the hinge was the only thing that was damaged.

A case manager (the highest point customers can talk to) calls me back and tells me that it's been clearly dropped. I tell him if it's been dropped, more damage would've been made than just the hinge. He tells me any physical damage is considered dropped by the customer. I keep arguing my case, but he basically keeps blaming me for dropping it. Now keep in mind, throughout the year I've owned it, little pieces of plastic have been falling off due to cheap quality (I've actually posted pictures in the past in some thread about a couple of different flaws). Using little post its, I marked where those minor flaws are for HP to see. Those don't show evidence of it being dropped at all since they're VERY minor and in random places.

Right now I'm talking to the case manager, again, to try and convince him that I didn't drop it. I asked him to email me the pictures they're looking at so I can see if it's the same damage. They want to charge me $500 to fix it, or send it to me unrepaired. It's also been mentioned that they can fix it at a discount, but I don't want to ask what the discount is because then it just shows that I'm giving in.

Any advice as to what I should do or say would be GREATLY appreciated.

    No more HP, NEVER AGAIN!

    Thanks

    Update:

I spoke to the case manager and he sent me the pictures. Sure enough, they're using the flaws that I pointed out as cheap plastic as "due to impact". Fortunately, as soon as I got the laptop and noticed the build quality, I posted a couple of pictures and concerns about it. Here's the thread: http://forum.notebookreview.com/hp-...xxx-series-owners-lounge-427.html#post7464606

I told the case manager about it and told him I'll be emailing him that link.

    Hi wallyy,
I work for HP and I am sorry to hear about your experience with your HP Pavilion dv7tqe. Your last update was in July. Are you still experiencing problems with your HP Notebook?
