So I might be ordering a ZBS360G5 soon, but I'm having some difficulty answering some questions.
First up… What's a reliable way of getting spec sheets for models out of HP? Partsurfer doesn't have all the models and it's often not completely correct it seems.
Has anyone used the Sure View display? I can't find much about it, and for some reason, HP decided to cripple the specs in the Quick Specs about the SV panel details. I'm kind of torn over the battery life of the FHD SV display and the very pretty but battery hungry AG Dreamcolor.
Pulled from the ZB 15 G5 Spec sheet:
Average Operating Power:
DreamColor 25W (Windows® 10 64-bit)
Without DreamColor 16.8 W (Windows® 10 64-bit)
It also has the really sparcely detailed spec sheet on the Sure View display. I was going to use it as the example panel, but it's Anti-Glare, you know like the x360 should be.
The 15 G5(AG), Studio G5(AG), and the x360(Doesn't say BV or not and no active area measure), all have the same lame spec sheet on the Sure View option. It's so weird that only the 15u G5 has the decent spec layout, but it's active area is a tiny bit different so I'm not sure if I can use those specs.
Decisions decisions

I have a X360 G5 with the 4K dreamcolor display. It's easily the best display I've ever had in a laptop. On the other hand, I've heard nothing but bad things about the sure view option.

Pretty sure it's the glossy screen. However, it's not extremely glossy and the screen is so bright that it doesn't even matter. Only screen I can honestly dial down the brightness on, during the day in my office.
-
I've spent several months with both the DreamColor glossy and anti-glare screens of the ZBS360g5. I'm biased because I don't like glossy screens as they get in the way of my design work. However I would recommend the a anti-glare here as it's actually rated at 600nits whereas the glossy is only rated to 400, so it's brighter! The anti-glare version is also ~.5lbs lighter because they put a glass pane in front of the screen to achieve the gloss. As a bonus they also texture the surface of the anti-glare screen so it has a nicer feel with the stylus.
When customizing the configuration you must first select the Integrated HD 720p Infrared (IR) DualAryMic Webcam so that the anti-glare DreamColor will appear as an option.
If your goal is eye candy get the glossy, it's beautiful. But if you want to work on your laptop without lighting restrictions go anti-glare. -
Anyone had any bother with their x360 zbook g5 making very loud and obvious clicking/ticking noises? This cannot be normal surely, it is a seriously annoying distraction.
You can REALLY hear how loud it is when I zoom in around the 15s mark.

its really loud for me even just using my internal speaker on this Z220 desktop to listen! Must be a frequency response thing.
Its way louder when the webcam is closer to the keyboard
Like a cricket clicking over and over and over. If I was trying to work in peace it would drive me insane. -
Xeon Zbook Studio G5 owner here. Known issues with audio/microphone on v2004, newest fast ring fixes every problem. Dream-color matte looks great, no issues with reflections but good god is it way WAY too bright. Thought about sure-view but I don't need the built in privacy filter and the 120hz refresh is something that is unimportant to me. Issues with ambient light sensor can be fixed with a registry edit via command line (google how to add it) and works fully on current fast-ring build (19635.mn_release.200522-1435)
Listened to the video, that almost sounds like HDD activity or maybe coil whine? Mine shows neither and I've used it very quiet areas I assume I'd hear something that loud. So I'd definitely RMA it if you can isolate it to the board with the bottom lid removed.
Also, buy used. Great deals on ebay right now!
Sidebar: Buy the Thunderbolt 3 Dock G2, worth every penny. Thunderbolt 3 pass-through also allows for full uninterrupted eGPU performance. You do have to run the display to the eGPU however as it causes Chrome to produce the "black screen" fault when using GPU acceleration when connected to the dock.Last edited: Jun 2, 2020Kyle likes this. -
Yeah, definitely sounds like a broken HDD, but of course there are only 2x vVME SSDs installed. I did wonder if it could be a faulty GFX fan trying to spin.
Maybe it was a Covid Friday night special.
The gloss screen is horrific though, totally unworkable, I work with lots of ssl+putty sessions and the last thing I want to see is my face staring back at me 90% of the time. Do you think the matte is just as durable in terms of use with the pen and fingers etc? -
Annoyingly the shiny brushed metallic rim around the laptop loves to pick up scratches FYIKyle likes this. -

How are you all getting the dreamcolor/non-dreamcolor 4k displays?
I see the following options (with/without IR)
Is the 4k display I'm getting dreamcolor or not? -

HP has already announced 2 Studio models that effectively replace this - except that they are not x360s...
Wondering when the new version will be announced/available, as I really could use an improved unit.Kyle likes this. -
And I need to place the order within 10 days (I cannot wait unfortunately). -
How does the UHD UWVA compare with the UHD Dreamcolor display?
I think the Dreamcolor is way brighter (I do not like superbright screens). -

It has to be new (getting it through work), and I would prefer it to be a 2 in 1.
It appears I won't like the dreamcolor panel. I have a precision which apparently has a screen rated at 330 nits, and I usually use it close to 0% brightness.
What is the difference between a Zbook Studio G5 and a ZBook 15? G5? -
Zbook Studios are thin and lights, only the x2 has LTE and it has 2 dimm slots (64GB max).
Full Zbooks (15/17) are complete desktop replacements. Full discrete cards including AMD/RTX, Smartcard support, NFC support, everything you'd expect on a desktop PC including 4 dimms (2 under keyboard and 2 from access panel) 128GB max.Last edited: Jun 4, 2020Kyle likes this. -
For writing using a pen on the 360, do I need a GPU?
In general, if I'm not doing video editing/gaming, do I need a discrete GPU on the 360?
(For a 4k screen). -

In what program would I see a benefit? -

Guys I am having tremendous issues with the click pad on this x360 G5. For all of my life using laptops I have used a single finger scroll, using the right hand edge of the touchpad.
With this x360G5 NOTHING I can do will change it to single finger scrolling from this GOD AWFUL two finger scrolling which makes me feel like I am about to get RSI from the gesture.
Am I chasing something which does not exist? Did they remove this feature from the Clickpads vs the older touchpads I am used to?
I have tried older drivers, installing SMBus drivers, PS2 synaptics drivers, you name it, nothing works. With the older drivers I can get the synaptics app to appear but none of the settings apply to the device.
It might sound dramatic, but if there is no single finger scrolling, then this is a deal-breaker for this device! -
Sorry ,
But i have hp zbook g5 x360 dream color but battery drain very fast , can i know
what is the maximum time to work with battery ? -
