This unit has a HL-DT-ST DVD-RW GWA-4080N DVD drive that is supposed to Burn 8X to DVD+R; when I received the notebook, with a 5400RPM HDD, the best I got was 2.4X. I have upgraded to a 7200RPM Hitachi Travelstar and I am up to 4X, but no 8X. I have tried a couple different 8X media, which all burn at 8X in my desktop burner.

    Any suggestions?

What is your DVD burning software set? Are you trying to burn dual layer? Try updating your firmware for your DVD burner.

Nero has an application call CD-DVD Drive Speed. You can try to run it and see your specs.

My zv5430us has the exact same burner with the 80GB drive, and it burns at 8X no problem.

You mentioned 2.4x burns - that sounds like a DVD+RW stat, not a DVD+R spec. Media can and often does show performance differences in different drives, unless you've got the same drive installed in your desktop???

Make sure the software you are using is capable of 8x burns before blaming the drive or the media - I know TEMPGenc DVD Author handles my burns at 8X no problem.

    Best Wishes!
