Why doesn't the X6000 have the X600 with 256MB of RAM? I thought it would be the same as the ZD8000. I want the X6000 because it's like $400 cheaper than the ZD8000 with the same set up minus the 256MB X600.
How much of a performance decrease will I see between the 128 and 256MB versions of the X600?
Also, how will those two X600's compare to a 128MB MB Radeon 9600 mobility?
Thanks in advance
-
you wont see that big of a difference the 256mb is mainly used for Higher Resolutions, and if u want to bump up Gaming settings to the highest Quality. Etc 128mb is fine for now u can always upgrade down the road, If u get the X6000/Zd8000.

I would like to use the highest settings in some games LOL. Mainly, Need for Speed Underground 2 and Unreal 2004. HL2 and Doom 3 I could take it down a notch I guess.
Why don't they offer the 256MB option on the X600? -
Also, how does the X600 compare to a 128MB MB Radeon 9600 mobility?

the X600 is better then the 9600, im waiting for the Zd8000 to ship to bestbuy so i can take a look at it. But not for awhile since m Zx5000 has been serving me well.

They do now. On the website you can configure the unit with 256mb video card and a 7200rpm hard drive. They must have just updated this.

I tried using search but only found this thread for my question:
What are the actual differences between the zd8000 and x6000? They both have similar on-paper specs, CPU, memory, video card options, etc...
Besides cosmetic appearance, what does each model deliver to justify the ~$200+ difference?

I upgraded my ze4515 from a 4200 rpm HD to a 7200 rpm HD, I also upgraded my ram from 256 to 1 gig; I was lucky caught the ram on sale and got the HD at Newegg for about 140. I have to tell you, this little laptop is flying now; I must have increased the speed by 50% in some apps. I also ordered the x6000, I opted for the 60 gig 4200 rpm drive...the entire system came in at $1597. I got the 128mb x6000 and 8X DVD, 512mb ram. I plan on upgrading the ram with 533mhz ram later and I will get the 7k60 from newegg. I will just use the current HD in an external USB enclosure. It will work great for my USB TV tuner, record shows...then I can move them to my PC which is hooked to my 50 inch LCD projection TV.

I just purchased the zd8000 with the following specs: 17.0" WXGA+ Wide Viewing (1440x900), 1.0GB DDR2 SDRAM, 400MHz (2x512MB), p4 3.6, 1 gig ram, 128MB ATI Mobility Radeon(TM) X600, 16x DVD+/-RW/R & CD-RW Combo w/Double Layer Support / RW, 60 GB 7200 RPM, 54g(TM) 802.11b/g WLAN w/ 125HSM/SpeedBooster(TM) all for $1992.00 with my 10% discount. However, the only concern i have is will the 128MB ATI Mobility Radeon(TM) X600 be enough for doom3, hl2 ut2004 in 1024x768? I mean i know it will run it but will the graphics be liquid smooth at 1024x768 and at what point do you truely need that extra 128 ram on the video to make use of a 256mb graphics card? is it ONLY at high resolutions you need the extra ram or what? Other than that with the 3.6ghz cpu, 1 gig ram, 7200 rpm hd will help my games move along nicely...HEH..HEH..
Come on, give me some input guys, thx! -
the 256mb of ram is only for Higher resolution, and Higher quality settings.
-
The 128 mb X600 ran Doom3 just fine no problems not sure what my resolution was thoe sorry to many games played since then to remember
I was running Prince of Persia at highest settings the whole time and it looked good. [] I was wondering when my new one gets here if it will make a diff. having the extra 128mb.[?]

ok, sounds good, but can can we upgrade the 128 ati radeon x600 to 256 down the road? wink wink...
thats the million dollar question$
PS - Prince of Persia, good game to test out the graphics or what? I mean, how pretty does it look? -
you should be able to go up to the x600 down the road but for the diff. in price when you orderd just get it with the 256mb x600 i think its only $100 upgrade.
I contacted ATI and asked if i could get the X850XT or the X800XL and they said... "Shop ATI is not currently selling the PCI Express X800 cards. You should be able to find them at retail outlets. The X850XT and X800XL should be available by the end of the month or early February."
They also said that you will need a minimum 350W power supply for the X800 series of cards.
I haven't found any info on the web about the x6000 power supply if anyone knows please list.

pcfitness,
Your lappy is gonna scream! I think with the extra ram and the 7200rpm drive...YOU WILL GET DESKTOP PERFORMANCE. I got the standard 512mb on x6000 because you can buy DD2 533MHZ ram on the kingston site. I stick of 1gig runs about $253.00 which also gives me room for another stick down the road. I was thinking about the 7200rpm drive....but I think I am gonna newegg one, I'll just do a fresh install of xp pro. I will say though, your config sounds totally awesome..you will have no problems running newer games. Good luck! -
FYI (sorry if this has been stated elsewhere already)...
I spoke to HP Sales over the weekend and you can get the 256 MB X800 GPU over the phone. -
^^ are you sure about that
i also just called hp by phone and they said that they only have the x600 available, like in the website
that the x800 is not yet available and will not be available in the zd8000 for a couple of months -
I'm in the market now for a laptop and I'm thinking seriously about getting the zd8000. Only prob is that I'm in Canada. Anyone know when it will be available here? Husband called HP and they said soon but didn't give him a date.

Updating the video card in the ZD8000 and in the X6000 can be done,...but will take the dismantling of most of the laptop. (Not an easy change) Also the laptops only come with an 180 watt power supply.
Here is the link to the service manual for the ZD8000.

I believe you will find the steps to replace what HP calls the Digital drive board on pages 5-52 and 5-53. Good luck.
