When I placed my order I wanted the DVD RW Double Layer burner instead of the LightScribe. I was playing around in my C drive under Programs and Common files and I came across a folder that says LightScribe. I right clicked on My Computer then to Properties and then Device Mgr and here is what it lists for my dvd drive "HL-DT-ST-DVD-RW GCA-4080N". Do I actually have the light scribe or the regular dvd burner? What's the difference?

Nope, just regular 8x dvd writer by LG that does DL...but not lightscribe.

Ok, thanks. I was actually hoping it was the plain jane one, but I wasn't too sure when I saw that folder.

I just got my HP notebook this week and was looking up info about installed devices when I found this posting. Dumb question here, what is LG and DL?
I was trying to find info on what kind of media to use for music and backing up data. I know I need RW media, but didn't know if the + or - was a concern with this burner??
Thanks -
" LG" is the company that makes the drive. "DL" is short for "Dual Layer," meaning the drive can write to dual layer discs (ie, 8.5GB DVD+R DL, as opposed to others, which are 4.7GB). You can actually use any type of writeable DVD media with your drive that you want: DVD+RW, DVD-RW, DVD+R DL, etc. Well, anything but Lightscribe.

Thanks, that helps me have some clue what to get for this DVD burner. The one on my "regular" computer is a DVD/CD burner, but not dual layer, which I was talked out of when I bought it a few months ago. Hope the warnings were for naught now!
