Hi Guys This May i got myself a HP Pavilion zd8480EA model payed for by work, I need something with decent power so i could do my work play games ;) and use the rest of features on it. I was limited to where I could have got the laptop from as the choice was dabs.com or dell, at the time the zd8480ea's specs blowed anything dell had out of the water, spec is 3.4 HT
1gb DDR2 x600 ATI 256mb 100GB HDD buit in wifi etc etc etc
    http://h20195.www2.hp.com/V2/pdf/c00586224.pdf

Right now with all these dual core beauties out there i want one from my company,
Iv already got a killer rig dual core E6600 PC that i built,
i went to my boss and said i wanted a new laptop,
my current hp is grinding as iv reallly put it through its paces!
My boss has said NO i cant have a new laptop, BUT i can upgrade any part of the laptop, lol now if it was the PC that would have been great BUT with a laptop im **** stuck,
from doing much research iv found out that i can upgrade the CPU to a 3.6 or a 3.8 in the same line, and up the ram to 2gb but thats about it,
now someone told me that my MB will take the new dual core processor but when i called HP they advised me that "they have no information"
    so what are my options?
Budgets not a problem, well upto £1500-ish
I know for that much money i can just get a new **** laptop
but the powers to be in there great wisdom have said NO i can instead spend it on upgrading the laptop!

    So guys whats my options?
I think the graphic card may be built-in but i ran a scan using Powerleap.com
which told me that i had a free PCIE slot
would getting a new motherboard that will fit in the case be an option???
Hell im open to all options?
i think again my buying choices may be limited,
    look forward to your responces

Obviously, your boss doesn’t know much about computers or he wouldn’t limit you to upgrades. He probably doesn’t realize that upgrading can cost more than new or close to it.

Here is what I would do; upgrade the notebook to the max: Motherboard, (if you can) CPU, graphic card, & memory.
Then your boss may yet change his mind about buying new. If not, then you got a newer faster notebook with all the upgrades anyway.

Upgrading a graphics card is just plain impossible. Don't ask, and leave it at that.

Anyway, get an upgrade to the highest processor (3.8HT I think...which might require a bigger AC adapter from HP) available, 2 GB RAM, 100GB@7200RPM or 160GB@5400 hard drive. That'll run the bill up high enough to make someone think twice. Also, don't get cheap ram...get something that costs $250+.

jack I agree with you, thing is someone one high above has given the command that I can't buy a newlaptop as that will b allocating me 2 units within a few months however upgrading isn't coverd by that so I can upgrade my parts to my hearts content,-
question is were do I start?

    =-------=====
    night---
from what iv just researched its not even poss to upgrade my laptops graphics card-- and from wat iv learned theres only a few laptops out there that offer that option-
so it looks like its going to b ram cpu en hard drive-

I'm a newbie whn it comes to laptop DIY,
question about motherboard, are they similar to pc motherboards as do they come in different formats I.e like pc ATX which will fit certain cases for laptops?in other words can u just buy a motherboard for a laptop I guess my next step is to research that,I'm off to google,'
oh wait I'm not iv got early start at work so I'm of 2 bed

Laptop motherboards are not standerdized. So, unless HP releases a new MB compatible with the zd8000 there is no chance of replacing the motherboard.
