I purchased an HP ZT3000 in Dec. 2004. Everything was working fine, and still works fine, but since a couple of months ago, the laptop seems to be getting way too hot at the bottom. Why the sudden change, and what can I do to fix it?
HP ZT3000
60GB - 5400RPM
768MB RAM
(too lazy to turn the computer on but I think) 1.7Ghz, maybe 1.8Ghz
Thanks.

Perhaps the cheap thermal interface material they typically use on the CPU heatsink has dried up or displaced? If that's the case you could try disassembling the notebook, cleaning the CPU core and the heatsink and applying some AS5.

Ok ummm, I'm a noob in all this. How do I clean the cpu core? Actually, how do i find it
? And what's an AS5?
Even the keyboard's getting hot now. -
Artic Silver 5 is a very good thermal interface, used to transfer heat from the processor, to the cooling system. To clean the processor core use isopropyl alcohol. Becareful, and make sure you earth yourself.
