I've had this HP ZV5000 notebook for about a year and am encountering a big problem.

While using my computer, plugged into the wall, every few minutes or so (seems random) it will switch itself to battery power and stay that way until my battery is dead, then I have to unplug the ac plug and plug it back in so the battery will charge. Now my battery sits and 3% and will not charge correctly.

I don't belive there is a problem with the cable itself or the connection on the back of the computer. I believe the problem is software related?

Any help with this issue? Thanks.

My uncle has a zv5000 - had the same problem. The issue is with the power connection - he sent it in and got it fixed.

HP's turnaround time is pretty fast - call HP and arrange for it to be sent in.

Crap, I just got a note in the mail afew days ago my warranty is expiring and I tore up the offer to get extended coverage.

How can I be sure it is the connection before I go inside and fix it?

It does not seem loose at all and it does not switch when I wiggle it.

You might be able to upgrade your coverage if you call. If you think it is software related, a fresh install will solve that. I think the connector is most likely.

I don't think it is the connection inside the notebook.

Sometimes when I unplug the ac connection, the battery meter reads as 100%, and I use the notebook on battery power, the battery meter will NOT change. It will remain at 100%.

This leads me to believe it is a software issue.

OK, I just tied something. When my notebook switches to battery power while it is plugged in, I can unplug the power cord from the wall, then plug it back into the wall, and now my notebook recognizes that it is plugged in and goes offf battery power to the AC power.

This leads me to believe there is a problem with the ac adapter? The green light on the adapter is always on when it is plugged in.

    Any ideas?
