I'd wait and see what's announced at CeBIT over the weekend and into next week. Hopefully we'll get details of the new zv6000z notebooks then.

The zv5000z has a better CPU and weaker GPU than the Dell. If you want to be able to run 64-bit WinXP (ships next month), that eliminates anything Dell sells.

Did you have a look at the Dell I6000 if that falls in the price range..

If you are not a hardcore gamer then the ZV5000Z will do..and you do get all the other extra stuff(printer, camera) with it..You also get the DVD writer...The HP's weakspot is the graphics card(outdated)so if you think that you'd use the graphics a lot then the dell is a better choice. But there is also the CPU to factor which is a equivalent of...say a 2.2~2.4GHz P4. The AMD is probably going to steamroll through in this case.

What about the price? Is the dell comparable..

I would choose the ZV5000 since you get a better overall deal.Thats a good deal for $999!!

    AMD Athlon 64 3200+, 512MB, 80GB 5400rpm

The AMD 3000 is not much more powerful than the Pentium M 1400, in fact I would say that it is on par with the Pentium M 1600, but the 1600 will give a lot better battery life.

The AMD does have 64bit going for it, so that is a plus, but there's nothing to use it for yet.

I didn't see a price listed on your Dell machine, but there is a 35% off coupon for Inspirons that expires tomorrow. Given your specs I would probably go for the Dell if I could get it cheaper than or the same price as the HP, otherwise I'd go for the HP. (It's sexier anyway)
