I wanted to get people's opinions on the new ZV6000, I realize that the notebook has just been released and nobody has got their hands on what yet, but I wanted an opinion based on the specs.

The specs on the Zv5000 are:
    -AMD Athlon 64 3700+(2.4GHz/512KB L2 Cache)
    -15.4" WXGA BrightView Widescreen(1280x800)
    -512MB DDR SDRAM(1x512MB)
    -64MB Dedicated Nvidia GeForce 4 440 Go
-40 GB 4200 RPM Hard Drive
    -8X DVD+/-RW/R w/Double Layer Support
    -54g 802.11b/g WLAN & Bluetooth
    -12 Cell Lithium Ion Battery
    -Built in 3.5" Floppy Drive
    -Extra:5-in-1 Media Reader

    Price: $1409.06

The specs on the Zv6000 are:
    -AMD Athlon 64 3500+(2.2GHz/512KB L2 Cache)
    -15.4" WXGA BrightView Widescreen(1280x800)
    -512MB DDR SDRAM(1x512MB)
-128MB Dedicated ATI Radeon Xpress 200M
-40 GB 4200 RPM Hard Drive
    -8X DVD +/- RW/R
    -54g 802.11b/g WLAN & Bluetooth
    -12 Cell Lithium Ion Battery
-Extra:6-in-1 Media Reader, Consumer IRport and an ExpressCard/54 slot.

    Price: $1440.62

So far, I like that the Zv6000 comes with a better video card, the IRport and the Express card slot. However, I don’t like that it has a slower processor and lacks double layer support.

I am leaning towards the zv6000 especially after doing the comparison for this post, but I would still like to find out everyone’s opinions.

    Thanks in advance.

Get the ZV6000. It has more advantages over the previous generation -

    1) Support generally declines after the product has been phased out. Some case parts may not be easily available after some time.

    2) The difference in performance between the 2 processors is very minimal and infact will not be noticable doing everyday tasks(word processing etc..)

    3) The DVD is probably replaceable & so if you feel the need for double layer burning then replacing it with beter aftermarket drives is the better option.

I mostly agree with miner... if you don't mind waiting for the estimated May 13th ship date. (What's up with that HP?) If you can find a better price on the zv5000z or R3000z (from Staples, Office Depot, etc), that's worth considering, but for about the same money you might as well get the zv6000. The Radeon Xpress 200M, while weak, is still going to be a very substantial improvement over the GeForce 440 Go (unless you need Linux compatibility, ATI still has work to do there).

Also, given that ship date, you might want to wait a bit and see if they add DL drives and what not to the zv6000 components list. Better yet, ask HP so they know people want them. Given that that Greek web store was listing zv6000's with 3800+ CPUs (2.4GHz) and you seem keen on buying top-of-the-line, holding off on ordering makes a lot of sense. It probably won't affect your ship date much.
