    Hi everybody,
I have bought an HP zv6000 with Athlon 3200+ and so far I see 2 weird issues:

    - system info screen shows a frequency of something about 493 MHz. I guess it also fluctuates quite a bit from invocation to invocation.

    - screen backlight is bright when on battery power and dims down when AC is connected. Should be other way around, doesn't it?

    Any ideas?
    Thanks.

WinXP's speed readout is broken. Use MobileMeter instead.

Yeah, the speed reporting tool of Win XP generally reports inaccurate readings on most AMD processors. Use any other third party utility like CPU-Z or Mobile meter as Brian suggested. The clock speed should show inbetween 1GHz & 2GHz with PowerNow enabled.

The screen brightness issue is a bug in the system & until HP releases a fix you"ll have to manually adjust the brightness as & when needed.

It also looks like the notebook does not adjust the processor speed when it goes from AC power to battery or vice versa.
It is either high (1900 MHz) when in Home/Office Desk power mode, or low (900 MHz) when in Portable/Laptop power mode.

Is there a way to teach this beast to change the speed when power cord is connected/disconnected? :)

Try reinstalling the AMD processor drivers from AMD's website. Sometimes these issues are caused by cranky drivers.

Use mobile meter and check to see whether the clock speed increases when you run a cpu intensive program like Super Pi or Prime95. If it does then it is working properly(PowerNow is working to keep the computer running cool & increase battery life), if not then try re-installing the processor drivers...

If you still want it to run at 2.2GHz all the time then change your power settings from Portable/Laptop to Always On or Home/Office Desk.
