Well I thought all was well with my zv6000 til I noticed my 12 cell battery wear level is at 9% after never being used (tested through mobilemeter). Could everyone check their wear level out via mobilmeter...perhaps this battery is not supported in the software...or perhaps my battery is defective.
MobileMeter: http://www.geocities.co.jp/SiliconValley-Oakland/8259
Here is an update: I contacted HP and they sent me another battery and this battery also has 9% of wear. Its a different model of battery too. I'm starting to think that this a software issue and not a defective battery. Could some others download mobile meter just to be sure. Its a nifty little program that does much more than just monitor battery levels.
Please indicate if you have the 12 cell or 8 cell when reporting your results.

I have an 8 cell. It says 3% wear. I have already done one full charge/discharge and used it on AC for several hours.
It also shows:
Remaining wattage: 53472mWh
Designed capacity: 65120 mWh
Fully charged capacity: 62900 mWh
Voltage: 15613 mV
I ran the test while on battery power.

I got my ZV6000 Tuesday. Now it reads
Remaining Wattage 21963 mWh
Designed Capacity 97680 mWh
Fully Charged Capacity 91508 mWh
Wear Level 6%
Is 6% normal? What is the Refresh button for? Refresh battery?

Mine read 7 %. Also How do I know for sure I have a 12 cell battery? There isn't anything on the battery that makes theis obvious, so I just trusting HP sent me the right one. It ran for approx 2-2.5 hours with screen on full brightness, does that sound like a 12 cell?

MobileMeter will show the 12 cell as 88800 mWh of designed capacity.
The 13-month-old 12 cell in my zv5000z still shows 0% wear. AFAIK that's very unusual.
You should get over 3 hours of battery life with a 12 cell, depending on how hard you push the CPU and how high the screen brightness is set. Try undervolting with CrystalCPUID to extend battery time under higher CPU loads. -
Great, thanks to this thread I just found out that HP sent me two 8 cell batteries instead of the 12 cells I ordered. No wonder I only got 2 hours of battery life, when I should had 3. So who should I complain to first to get the fastest response, HP or Office Depot?

I'm starting to think that MobileMeter needs an update to deal with this battery or else eveyone is going to see excessive wear (like I did).

Or the zv6000 battery has a slightly larger capacity than my zv5000z battery, or HP misprogrammed what the designed capacity should be in the smart battery's firmware, or...

Can anybody tell me how the 12 cell battery labeled different from the 8 cell? I've ordered the 12 cell but can't tell from the battery label.

my 12-cell initially had 12% wear. I did go through the battery calibration procedure as documented on the HP support web site, which is basically a full charge/discharge/charge cycle. Full discharege took approximately 3h15min with light web surfing (wireless). After completion and reboot, Mobile Meter now indicates 4% wear. While not perfect, it's a whole lot better than 12%.

how do you do this battery calibration thing? like, when you first receive it, you charge it, use your comp unplugged from wall? but when you're out of juice, doesn't your comp shutoff? that doesn't seem to be very good for the comp if you're in the middle of something. can someone explain this? sorry, im a desktop user [

From HP support:
Calibrating the battery
To recalibrate the battery, complete the following steps:
1. Plug in the AC adapter.
2. Allow the battery to charge until the Battery Charge light turns off, showing that the battery is fully charged.
3. After the Battery Charge light turns off, unplug the AC adapter.
4. Turn on or restart your Notebook.
NOTE: Steps 5 through 8 prevent your Notebook from entering Sleep mode. These steps also allow the battery to drain faster.
5. Click Start and then Control Panel.
6. Click the Power Options icon to display the Power Options Properties dialog box.
In Category View, click Performance and Maintenance, then the Power Options icon.
7. Click the Power Schemes tab and select the Portable/Laptop scheme.
Figure 1: Power Options Properties Window
example
8. From the Running on batteries column:
1. In the Turn off monitor drop-down list, select Never.
2. In the Turn off hard disks drop-down list, select Never.
3. In the System standby drop-down list, select Never.
4. In the System hibernates drop-down list, select Never.
9. Let the battery drain until your Notebook reaches Hibernation and turns off.
10. Plug in the AC adapter and restart your Notebook.
11. Return to the Power Options Properties dialog box, and re-enter your power savings settings to the desired level.
Battery charging time
Battery charging time will vary based on the initial battery charge, the type of battery, and the activity of your Notebook while charging.
Your Notebook's batteries charge much faster if the Notebook is off while charging.
