Is this a match made in heaven? Or was I simply douched by a not-so-smart salesperson at Best Buy?

I have a ZV on the way, and it's not like it's a deal breaker, but just wondered if that's a possibility when I get it because it seems like it'd be a pretty nice little feature.

This site says it's possible with some configuration, but I think what they mean is that they launch programs w/in Windows, not from the power-off state.

    Anyone wanna shed some light?

as far as I know the buttons only open up the configured programs
    IE: WWW will open FireFox.
I never use them only if I want to shut off my wireless connection which thus far has worked great in m condo.

would be cool to see if you configure it do quick play like its siblings could

Quickplay isn't installed on the ZV6000, only DV1000 and DV4000 and I'm not sure you could make it work, but there isn't a 0% chance.

I don't think it'd be a problem getting the Linux version to install on a seperate partition, the issue would be configuring the button to power up the unit on it's own...hmm.

LuckMC11, what do you mean special key commands?

Although now that I think of it, you could install that on a different partition, have a 1-second delay menu to choose the partition and boot directly into it...that's always an option as well. Thoughts?

use hotkeycontrol XP and then u can customize like 2 or more keys to open a program or folder or like the "my computer" thing and u can set it for quickplays keys as well...i've tried it but then i felt that i'd rather use my mouse for the quickplay buttons since it has that already :p :D ...hope that helps

Good suggestion on the proggy...although it looks like Windows has to be up and running in order for that to work. I was looking for something that'll boot the computer from the power off state directly into that QuickPlay partition like on the dv1000...but it doesn't look like that'll be the case since the power on button would have to be hardware-driven. That's what led me to thinking possibly setting up my own partition and just booting to it thru a quickie menu. Thanks for the suggestion though, I like the looks of that prog for my desktop!

Well I downloaded the source files from HP and also looked at my g/f's QuickPlay CD that came w/ her DV1000, one in the same it appears. HP's site says that it'll install on a machine as long as 1) there's sufficient hard drive space and 2) the machine supports it. So I'm assuming I couldn't even install it and dual boot it if I WANTED to...argh. I was just looking for a fast solution to playing music and DVDs without booting all the way up into Windows! I guess I could always try to install it when I get it and have to do reformats...although this all seems pretty unprecedented according to my searches on these forums and also at ZV6000's unofficial ones.
