The 64 MB card will work fine on the WXGA screen.
If you are talking about speed for gaming the speed doesn't really matter that much. The processors in this series of laptop are fast enough to the point that the GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) is the bottleneck. Think of this like a funnel. You can only pour so much liquid down at a time. Having a larger jug wouldn't help it to go down any faster, only a larger funnel (or in this case a faster GPU). -
You are right Slat. With my laptop i have a WSXGA+ (1680x1050)and a radeon 9200 card and it works great!
quote:

Thanks for replies. I'm still waiting for a full report/review on the zx5000 either in the press or on line. Perhaps its out there and I'm not looking hard enough! My preferences now are Mobile P4 3.06 Ghz,
XP home,1 x512MB ram,4x DVD+RW/R &CD-RW combo drive, 802.11g/wireless
LAN, 15.4"WXGA, 64MB ATI 9600 Graphics, Office Basic,12cell battery.
Thats over $2000 worth so I want to make sure I dont get a lemon.
I'm not experienced enough to judge just looking at specs. I tend to keep my note-books a while. My present Dell is six years old and struggling. -
It's not that your not looking hard enough a full review of a zx5000 just doesn't exist at the moment for some reason. I looked for a long time and never found one. However, mine should be here in about 1 to 2 weeks, and I will try to write as complete an informal review as I can.
But keep your eyes out for an official one, also watch for the Compaq R3000 since they are basically identical machines. -
I believe why there isn't to much info on the zx5000 is because it is such a new model from Hp.I really like how mine is performing.....lets keep each other informed, good or bad in the future. Thanks

I just ordered the HP zx5040. It has the ATI 9200 64MB. I wanted to order it custom built from computers4sure.com but I had problems getting it shipped to an APO address. Im a soldier deployed overseas so its hard getting companies to mail stuff, anyways I wanted to know the main difference between the 9200 64MB and 9600MB. Im not a hardcore gamer but I like to play BF and some other similar games.
-
There'e not a great deal of difference. With 64MB dedicated, that will take care of your gaming needs.

Kool man thanks, oh yea, I wanted to buy some more memory, atleast 512 from Crucial. Is that a good company? and Does the zx5000 come with parity or non-parity memory?
-
Im still stuck on what brand of memory to purchase. I leaning towards Crucial but are there any suggestions out there for my zx5000us series?
-
Hi everyone,
I am hoping someone can provide an explanation or suggestion to my inquiry. I recently purchased the HP zx5040us model. This is my first time owning a notebook, an HP for that matter. Prior to this I had a Gateway with the Athlon AMD processor (850Mhz). DSL is currently not available in my residential area at the moment. Anyway, it seems that my notebook runs so much slower than my last computer, particularly when I am online (dialup). I am not sure if this is a Windows/Explorer issue or something with the system. The HP notebook is a Pentium 4 running at 2.8Mhz with 512 MB RAM; I figured it would, at least, be as fast as my last system through the dialup. Yes, I understand it is restricted my the dialup, but it actually takes 1.5 to twice as long to load the same webpage. I am not a "techy", if anyone in the forum can provide an explanation or suggestion on what I can check or adjust, I would really appreciate it.
Thanks,
Tom

Pelican07, I've had my zx5000 for about 2 weeks now. It is configured almost exactly as what you wantexcept I have 2x256 ram and 80GB HD. I am very happy so far. Let's compare notes occasionally. I am not a techy so I'm open to all suggestions.

Hi MON2REY, Good news that you are v. happy with your ZX5000.
I would also go with an 80GB HD (preferably 5400RPM) to store the odd movie and hope to increase the time until the laptop becomes obselete.
Regarding RAM, I was thinking of saving $250 and ordering with only
1x512MB and expanding with another 512MB or more later (when prices have dropped and I need more memory). Perhaps that,s not a good idea?
