Just wondering if the zx5000 I just ordered has the Prescott version of the Pentium 4. The version I got was 3.2 Ghz so I think it is, but I'm not sure. Is the Prescott version faster than previous Pentium 4s?

It's usually slower and a heck of a lot hotter. You should hope they didn't send you a Prescott.

It depends on what you are doing with the machine. The long pipeline that was required in the Prescott is its doom, not necessarily any other internal issue. The prediction software built into the chip is not as good at predicting the next requirement as Intel had hoped. Look for this issue to be resolved in the next iteration.
For gaming, which is very predictable, the P4E actually takes a slight lead over the Northwood chips. It doesn't make too much of a difference, though, as Athlon 64s are supreme in most gaming arenas, with only the P4EEs as true competition pound for pound.
If only HP would stop putting the Go 440 into its Athlon 64 laptop line... -
