    zx5000 users,
I have a zx5078cl. My sister has a zx5040us, purchased on my recommendation. We both have noticed the same problem with the power cord attached to and coming out of the power adapter (the BRICK). The rubber sheathing has pulled back (mine within 2 months, my sister's within a couple of weeks) from the power adapter leaving the metallic power cord from the power adapter to the notebook EXPOSED. Both of us are concerned.

    1) Has anyone else noticed this? Take a look.

    2) Is this a fire hazard? Could this short, spark, etc. if it contacts water or another metallic item or surface?

    3) Should we seek replacements from HP or just deal with it?

if its that new, i think you should have them warrenty the part. They should do it unless it appears the damage is the result of physical abuse which I doubt both of you could have done. Best way to find out is to contact them. Make sure you tell them you want a replacement, if you ask them if you have to live with it, they might say yes, with warrenties you need to be a little forcful and not let them push you into agreeing with them.

    DaGreek,
Thanks for the response. I see that others have been viewing this thread. Has anyone else had this problem? It seems to me that physical abuse should be ruled out since my notebook is powered by the HP Notebook Expansion Base and my sister's showed problems right away.

That base is another story: keyboard failed within three weeks, base failed within two months, mouse failed within three months.

All those things breaking is very weird, one breaking is one thing for them all to so quickly is something else. How old is your sister? I've never heard of anyone having that much trouble with new HP products. If they are all under a year you should exchange them.

The brick for my R3000z is physically fine, but now that I've seen this thread, I will inspect it. The only "concern" I have about my brick is how hot it gets when charging the battery.
