OK... It just came to me that this ZX5000 is a socket 478... and so are pentium M's...

Do you think it would be feasible to swap the current P4 3.0HT for a pentium M? All that might have to be modded is the height of the heatsink.

If it could be done what could I expect for battery life, I get 2 hours even as it is with the 12cell, heres the stats

    ZX5000
    P4 3.0HT
    1024GB DDR 2700 RAM
    60GB 5400 RPM HDD
    ATi MR9600 w/ 128mb
    15.4" WXGA (NOT brightview)
    12Cell LiIon

This would also run considerably cooler, with that stock P4 cooler on there I would imagine I could even overclock it a bit.

    I wish but ...

the pins are not the same ( maybe in purpose ) so don't
waste your money , I too asked about it and it will not work .

You might be able to put in a celeron D which is a bit cooler or new mobile pentium which are a bit cooler , but I don't know if the temp gain worth the effort .

The mentioned are prescott based so if you have a northwood better stick to what you got .

    .. Good idea though .

So even though they are both the same socket they are not interchangable?

    Hmm...

Even if the pin layout was 100% identical, you still don't have a supported chipset for the CPU to work. It needs an Intel 855 series chipset, the P4's are based on the 845 or 852 series chipsets. Also, the power requirements for the Pentium M chips are a lot lower, it's possible you might pop the CPU because of the voltage difference. There's no reason to consider this option any further, there's just too many differences for this to even come close to working.
