I'm sure many new owners of the HP dv5t are wondering what cooler to buy, and can't really find anyone with real numbers. Well, I just got my zalman and would like to show you my HWMonitor numbers. I still don't know if it's a good cooler or not.

Currently, i only have numbers for idle (nothing on, no tabs, just HWMonitor) with the cooler on and with the cooler off, both snips are on top of the cooler. While idle, there isn't much of a difference, i will later check it when gaming (not that graphics intensive, Warcraft 3), i just don't have the time right now. I don't think it's quite useful while idle (nothing opened), considering right now, my idle (except this time i have mozilla on, and pictures folder opened up) temperatures with the cooler off is... or was equal.

Later on i'll post snips of playing 30 mins of WC3 with the cooler on/off.

    I run a T9400 (2.53 GHz) processor and a 9600m GT video card.

Have you tried moving the cooler down a couple inches to make sure that the vent has air blowing into it?

I got it pretty much the lowest i can put it before the laptop actually comes off, otherwise every time i put my hands/wrist to rest on top of the laptop, pushing on the bottom will push the laptop down like a teeter-totter. So basically i have it as near as possible to the vent without it become going up and down. It doesn't exactly reach the back left vent, but that's what i was asking in these forums, they said go ahead and buy the cooler. I did, and well, doesn't do so great idle, i'll say later when gaming.

I will get a replacement laptop tomorrow with a P8600 processor, thus my idle temps will probably be less, i'll try it on that laptop. I will also try to undervolt so i'll post snips of the temps when stressing the gpu/cpu.

edit: actually push the laptop lower that it stops to teeter-totter and aligns with the vents, but it's very ugly and seems a waste of space, otherwise, i could have just got a zalman nc1000 and let it overlap like it overlaps on the nc2000 when pushed to align with the vents.
