I'm STILL waiting for my zd8000. Lawd knows I'm tired of waiting. It seems like I am checking my email 50 times a day, just to see if they have delievered my machine. But when it gets here, I'm gonna be the happiest man alive.
-
Hi. I am ordering mine today. Which monitor did you all go for?
Also, did you have any coupon/promo codes?
Thanks! -
I ordered mine on 12/19 and it arrived 1/03 but I also got an E-mail that said it was delayed due to my x600 not in stock.
I checked my E-mail every day to see when it would ship they finally sent me a message yesterday saying it had shiped and to look for it to come in 2 to 3 days. So dont be suprised if it shows up before you see it on the web as being shiped..
OH yea by the way
It is Bad Ass love it compared to my old laptop (Gateway-7405GX) Plus It just looks to be more duriable and put together more solid, Thats the reason I took my 7405 back in the first place had it 2 weeks and the hinge cracked luckilly Best-Buy was cool & took it back for exchange then after 4 others had blown pixils they gave me a refund and I odered my X6000...and am very pleased.[]

It looks to be a pretty awesome machine.
I would have liked to see an Athlon 64 option, and I think that the GeForce Go 6800 in the Sager 9860 will be a better GPU, but overall an excellent machine for the price.
Please do a review as soon as y'all get it. -
or when HP releases the X800 people can just order it, and pop it in.
-
the AMD 64 is the only thing I would have rather had on this notebook. is there a way it can be upgraded later on to an AMD 64[?]
-
no not unless HP offers an AMD based counterpart to the Zd8000, the Motherboards are totally different, Thermal design and such.
-
Well I guess I will have to wait thanks AJVETT. I wasn't sure if you could just buy the 64 online and just pop it in. but in no hurry no real need for it at the moment hopefully when i want to upgrade it will be available.

I finally got my zd8000. It took forever but its here. I love it thus far. Only gripe that I have is that my zd8000 has a dead pixel in the lower right corner. It's really not bothering me a whole lot, but after spending 2700 dollars, I think I deserve a machine in perfect condition. I was thinking about sending it back, but I just don't feel like waiting another 3 to 4 weeks for them to build me another one. It was built in China by the way (who would have guessed).
What do you guys think I should do? Take it back? Keep it? -
Never mind...a friend of mine suggested that I press the dead pixel firmly with my thumb, and that would eliminate the problem; and IT WORKED!
So if you ever have this problem, you might want to give this a try! -
Can any of you new 8000 owners comment on the heat (specifically
underneath your right hand) and fan noise issues reported on cnet, etc.?
I've narrowed my choices to the 8000 and the 5000 (after also looking at the Dell 8600 and 9200). I do a lot of data entry, and the 8000's numeric keypad would be ideal vs carrying around a USB keypad (and mouse possibly), but I also like the fact that I haven't read anything about the touchpad/wrist area running warm/hot or fan noise on the 5000s. -
My x6000 heats up pretty hot under my right hand. I thought maybe because I have a 7200rpm drive. The fans are not that loud, my hp ze4315us is louder than my x6000

brianstretch Notebook Virtuoso
I've got a 7200RPM drive in my zv5000z, which MobileMeter says is currently at 38C, and the top of my laptop is barely warm, cool even. I'd bet on the P4 CPU and/or the ATI GPU being the culprit(s) with the X6000.
-
The Prescott CPU's are the culprit, they are the next gen of a P4 Space heater. I wish they had the NorthWood P4's still in production, so they could put them in the Zd8000/X6000 they run MUCH cooler.

It does look like the video card will be upgradable. But it will be with some effort. I have found a place to download the service manual. It has 193 pages. But I printed them out for use after the warranty runs out. Here is a link.
http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c00291986.pdf
I beleive that the service manual is calling the video card the Digital drive board. 5-52 -5-53. -
I'm not the smartest guy on this topic, but 5-52/53 looks like the Usb Digital Drive bay. I have looked through the manual and found nothing on the video card at all. I am sitting in Iraq still waiting for these bozo's to unscrew our mail situation, mail is delivered on monday/friday and as of late they are always a day behind and never pick it all up. That and I had a recent change of parent unit so our addy changed and it was shipped to the old address...
Ordered:
HP ZD8080
P4 3.4
1 Gig PC3200 ram
100 G 4200RPM HD
ATI X600 256M Video
WINXP MC 2005 -
Sorry,...my mistake. After checking and reading everything I can find. It appears that the ZD8000/x6000 does not have an upgradable GPU. The GPU is on the board. There are three differant motherboards depending on the GPU you select. (So you would have to upgrade the board to upgrade your GPU. This computer does not have axiom.)
However,....I now have a stupid question. Is it possible that later down the road,...a company like ATI might make an upgraded video card that plugs into ExpressCard/54 PC slot now on the side of the computer? This way perhaps you could go into device manager and disable the onboard GPU. Then use the plug in card to drive your graphics. Is not the ExpressCard/54 really just an external PCIe slot for plug-in modules? Or am I mistaken? Am I just grabbing at straws? Or is this a money making ideal?
Zd8000 anyone get one yet?
