I've been playing Command & Conquer on my zv5000z AMD 64 3000+ The bottom of the computer gets pretty hot on my lap.... the hard drive, battery and CPU area noticeably heat up, but the 2nd fan, the one I believe is located below the CPU does not turn on......
Thanks for any info on this [B)]

Hey. I know what you are talking about. I had same problem, actually I still have
. I read that second fan turns on if the temperature of CPU goes above 60C. But mine zv5000z does it from time to time, I mean, sometimes its on, sometimes its not, and it really gets hot by the way. Now I do not really know what controls second fan, I just was told that it depends on temperatur of CPU, but I am not really convinced
. To have lower temperature during games I use ClockGen, it helps a bit.
That's all I know, maybe other people know more.

dont put it on your lap and it wont get that hot. it needs to have air flowing through the bottom of the notebook
theres a reason why they call them notebooks and not laptops anymore[B)]
I'd rather be skateboarding -
When I use the notebook on my lap, I am not blocking the side vents or the two fan vents on the bottom. My legs are nice and skinny, so I can position it just right. Yet, it still gets pretty hot, and I would think the 2nd fan would want to turn on, maybe it just needs to get even hotter?

korwedge, i'm about to buy the same exact specs as your laptop.
any recommendations?
I was thinking about getting the wsxga that goes on higher resloution, is that worth it? its like $40 extra

Mine is the standard resolution. It looks great.
Make sure you order with the 12 cell battery!
The computer rocks, the 64mb Nvidia card is not the best, but I don't play many games.... so it doesn't affect me.

If heat is really causing a problem, CompUSA has a "Chill Pad" that you can set your notebook on to keep it cool. According to the website its powered by the notebook USB port and has two built in fans. I haven't tried it yet but I'll be getting one within the next week or so. If you want to look at it, look under Notebook Accessories on the CompUSA website. Oh yeah, and by the way, no I don't work for CompUSA.
