i'm currently borrowing one and so far a little irritated. i've got 3 questions just off the top of the head.

the screen on this thing really excells when it comes to movies, but all text on here is just too bold. i like a more leaner refined look. it only gives me two dpi scale options and i'm on the smallest one (96). resolution is 1280x1800. is there anything else i can do?

is there anyway to turn off those annoying "quickplay" button sounds?

this laptop features a built in webcam yet in programs there's only an uninstall option.

    any help appreciated.

    1. Use a different font/theme. Or use Firefox where you can scale pages manually. Otherwise, no.

    2. There is a BIOS option.

    3. Webcam needs to be activated in Quickplay or a third-party program (AIM, MSN...)

    I'll just presume you meant 1280x800. :D

You don't mention the operating system (XP or Vista) and you don't say where the text is too bold. If it's in IExplorer you can reduce the size of the font, but not the DPI scaling. And there's more than just two DPI settings in Vista - you can customize the DPI scale, but that won't make it smaller, just larger and readable.

As the other poster said, Firefox may have settings to reduce the DPI scaling in its browser.

Like the other posted mentioned, yes, press "F10" when the computer first turns on or restarts during the HP logo and it will take you into the BIOS setup. In there you will find an option to disable the beep sound.

Check that the webcam is working properly in Quickplay. If so, then the problem might be the program you're using or you may need to get an updated driver from HP for the webcam. There is also a patch for users who experience the 2x playback speed issue.

I had issues with my webcam when I did a clean install of Vista, but an update fixed it.

    :)
