    a process called "system" hogs CPU

    I noticed that my fan was running more frequently than before. After checking the process manager, I found a process which took %30 of the CPU cycle constantly.

    What is this process?

    I tried to kill it, but it refuses to terminate.

    not sure what it is but it's taking 0% of my CPU so perhaps that process is currupt on you system.

    It's a Windows process. You can't terminate it.

    Sounds like you have a corrupted file, as Fry and CeeNote said.

    I've got the same problem when the notebook has been hibernated many times without a restart. Restarting solves my problem but I'll reinstall Windows as soon as I get some free time.

    I think this is exactly the answer. I hibernate the machine a lot. Unfortunately I have no time to reinstall windows, not to say Debian.

    A reboot will ultimately resolve. I have similiar issues after many Hibernate sessions.
