Can anyone tell me if it would be difficult to put in 4gb (2x2GB) of RAM in a dv2500. Im considering buying one within the next few days and I think I could save a lot of money and get a pretty good performance boost that way.

Definitely buy it from somewhere other than HP. Adding it to the system is very easy, you just need a small screwdriver. If you have to force it too hard, then you're doing it wrong. Otherwise you should be able to figure it out. There is a door on the bottom of the laptop for the RAM.

OK thanks i currently own a zv6000 that I add RAM to. From what you are saying it sounds like its just as easy. Now should I get DDR2 800 or 667?

Adding RAM will be very similar to other machines you have worked on.

Your system uses PC5300 RAM. That number sets all of the specs. PC5300 is 667MHz. Your laptop won't get additional benefit of 800MHz RAM (the front side bus is 800Hz, but the RAM bus is 667MHz)
