basically all notebook manufacturers outsource everything from tech support to actually making and fixing the systems. One of the largest ones who does this for manufactures like dell, apple, hp etc. Here is the site for the quanta repair center in Fremont California, it even lists the brands right there.

HP contracts lots of different repair companys to fix their laptops, it just makes the store an Authorized HP Repair Center. Its alot easier for them this way plus its easier if you live near one. Well thats how it is here in Aust. anyway

My old Compaq Pesario V1104 notebook was repaired by NCSS in Melbourne. Quite good service. I got the 3-years extended warranty Pick-n-Return HP CarePak. My screen started to turn red when there was no signal. They replaced the whole top assembly - screen, top cover, hinges. It came back with the sticky packing plastic still left on it. Sent the notebook in twice for 2 different faults and they always ordered the parts from HP. The Australian Extended Warranty doesn't run out till Nov 2008.
That is also one of the main reasons I bought the HP dv2637tx two weeks ago. I am going to get the 3 years HP pickup and return carepak for this notebook before the initial warranty runs out.
My QuickDock arrived and am using itJust wished the wire was on the right instead of the left because the connector on the dv2637tx is on the left.
Just bought the HP Digital/Analogue tuner expresscard off ebay..... hoping it won't be a disappointment when it arrives. -

The quickdock side connector can be annoying but its great how it can house all your external devices and turn it into 1 cable -
Just checked the HP website.... AUD253.00

Bought my Compaq in Nov 2004, initial warranty ended Nov 2005 and bought the CarePack on the day the warranty expired and it extended for another 3 years. So my Compaq is covered for 4 years. BTW, the screen turn red 6 months after the initial warranty ended. Without the extended warranty, the spare part price of my replacement LCD screen would have been AUD689.00 and that is not including service and workmanship costs.
all this talk about shoddy repairs has
