I just received my dv9700t last week and I'm wondering if there's any software that came with it to monitor temps? I looked around in the Nvidia Control Panel last night but couldn't see anything in there. Did I miss something?

Download speedfan.

where can I get speed fan from?
-
or even better get hwmonitor which does not even have to be installed

Thanks, just installed a program and have it up. It seems like my comp is running a little on the warm site though. On a flat surface with Vista power options set to High Performance while at idle, my CPU is at 60C. While in a game, it's up at 84C with my GPU at 88C.
I'm still waiting on my Zalman 1000 cooler to arrive. Are these temps abnormal for a dv9700t or in general really high? Anything I can do to lower them that doesn't sacrifice performance? -
Did you try speed fan? I know HWmoniter shows my readings WAY higher than speed fan. Also, check if there is an update on the bios...I read somewhere on this forum about a bios update (forget which model #) that actually ran the fan more efficiently and lowered core CPU temps.
If all else fails, then I'd suggest a laptop cooler mat to go underneath.
The idle temps are a bit on the high side...not out of the ordinary though.
I have yet to find a temp monitor that is consistent like the temp monitors that come with motherboards for desk top pc's (Asus probe for instance)..... -
I tried looking for updates on HP's website, but couldn't find any for "dv9700t" They showed a ton for dv9701au-9790er
Link to page I was looking at
Was I in the wrong section maybe? -
Here is a link to your system:
This is for 32 bit Vista...I assume that's what you have?

Perfect! Thanks for the help. How can I find out what current drivers I have for each of those to make sure I'm not downloading something I already have?
-
Use HP Update found on your PC. A number of us have found the BIOS update does not work unless it is installed via HP Update.
-
Thanks, I'll try that first
-
Any idea which one of these is correct?
-
cpuid are the correct temps.
-
Wow...did not realize GPU's ran that hot at idle....
-
those are a tad high for the cores when there maxed out...
anyway get all the updates for vista and hp. easy way to do this is search "update" in the start meun and it will show your the programs you want to run. -
Ok, I'll make sure to do that. I just received the laptop last week and haven't updated anything yet. BTW, the 'max' temps in CPUID where while gaming while the 'Value' column where while browsing.
-
Also you need to run speedfan in administrator mode for it to see the hard drive temps.
any HP software to monitor temps?
