i have this problem after i cleaned install my windows vista. after installing all drivers and windows vista update i experienced that the windows sidebar, the hp wireless assistant and the bluetooth program loads very slow. around 1min after it shows the desktop and i also noticed that the hard disk has some acivity due to its light. i got 2gig of memory and installed all the latest driver found in hp website. i only installed the hp wireless assistant, the hp quickplay and the hp quicklaunch button. i already formated 5 times with the same problem.

    any advice, tnx

    I did . . .

I tried running HDTune while that HDD light was furiously blinking and got lower than usual benchmarks (the avg transfer rate dropped from 44MB/s to somewhere around 35-40MB/s, with frequent dippings down to 1-2MB/s) . . .

My advice is to just use the laptop normally and to some point, the HDD activity light will eventually stop . . .

No idea what's causing it, though. I did the clean vista install w/o activation provided in this forum . . .

BTW, I didn't install the HP wireless assistant and quickplay. Just the quicklaunch buttons . . .

P.S. I applied some tweaks found in the Top Windows Vista Tweaks You can find in the Windows OS forum, particularly the ultrafast booting with TuneXP 1.5 (dunno if it really helps, but at least my sidebar and BT doesn't appear that slowly, no idea about the wireless assistant . . . )
