so my current statue with hp is that
i ordered and recieved a dv7tqe about a month ago,
and i liked every aspects of the laptop except the fact that
there was major problem within either the whole build quality or the battery
because i wasnt able to snap the battery in to the laptop.
i mean, inserting a battery shouldnt be too hard, its a simple task,
and i followed the "start here" manual and tried like more than 100 times
to insert, but it wouldnt just work.
and there was like a crack in laptop surface so i assume
the laptop was just assembled horribly.
but since i really liked all of the other aspects of the laptop and the price was really good,
i decided to exchange it and its estimated to be delivered next week,
and i really hope to get a model without and faults
because returning and exchanging not only take time but pain in the butt, you know.
(and to be honest, it seems like the build quality of pavilion laptops are not that great.
i read lots of post around the webs about defective pavilion units.)
so my question is,
do you guys have any tips or know-hows of determining if the brand new laptop has some defective parts?
like, external parts like screen, keyboard, or battery, they are kind of obvious,
but how about testing the internal parts like cpu and gpu?
i apporize for my lack of knowledge in computers
any help, advice i would take with great appreciation. thank you!

Odds of a CPU being defective would be on the same order of wining the lottery. However, the thermal paste application job could be off. To test things like that, you would want to see how hot the CPU can get.
You'll need CPU benchmarking programs like Intel burn test, Wprime, Prime95.
You'll need temp measuring programs like HW monitor, Hardware info 32, etc..
You can Google for links to each of these programs.
For the GPU, same thing. Look for excessive temps. Use programs like Futuremark Vantage or 3D Mark06. Ask or look in the owner's lounge in this forum for comparative temps.
Everything else you test by simply using them. Webcam, USB ports, HDMI, eSATA, etc.
any tips on how to determine if the laptop is a defective?
