it's exactly the same as the install of a conventional HDD.

The only option would be the manual install of trim support, if it's even necessary. Most/many SDDs in the past 4-6 months have trim built-in to the device firmware.

    I installed a 2.5" X-25M G2 and it performs fabulously, despite the low 4k read/write

in installed 2 1.8" drives, one an x-18m gen2, the other a 250GB Toshiba HDD. Not that hard, but you need the 1.8" drive caddy that comes with the necessary cables.

Low 4k? What are you getting? What is considered fast? Running the same random read test in HDTune, both SSDs completely obliterate my x58 i7 desktop with a fast RAID0 setup.

Here's my 80GB G2 benchmark on my Dell XPS1340. Strangely on my Envy 15 with the stock 160GB G2 SSD, the 4K random read is half that of the 80GB G2 in my Dell. I am still using (temporarily, didn't get to redoing it yet) the stock HP OS loaded with crap, but still it should not have halved the performance. I wonder if it's the firmware. My 80GB I flashed it to the latest 102HD. The HP came with 102HA.

about twenty screws hard.. Seriously, taking it apart is not hard at all. however, attaching those small ribbons back in is little bit tricky. Other than that is piece of cake.

yeah i i wish someone had posted their process of installing it. im aware that theres a service manual for the envy 15 but im more scared about wiring control considering im thinking about switching from 2.5" HDD to 1.8"HDD+1.8"SSD
maybe i haven't searched through this forum enough.

Does anyone know how to make the HP ENVY recognize 1.8 SSD's ? This thread will run into bigger problems like I experienced..... I cannot get the HP Envy 15 to recognize the 1.8 SSD (Crucial C300). Even with updated BIOS F9A I put on last nite (Oct 2010). I have tried 2 different HP motherboard connector cables, and 3 different Micro SATA to SATA adapters I have tried. But nothing is recognized. However....

Good news. is a 2.5 SSD works just fine. But it takes up the whole drive bay, so there is no room to install a 2nd drive..... I installed a different 2.5 SSD (Crucial C300) and it runs badda-bing fast with a WIN7 experience score of 7.7. I'll live with this great speed until I can understand what it will take to make a 1.8 SSD be recognized. Yes, I agree with anyone that the BIOS on these HP's are very crude.
