With Windows 7 about to drop, and HP rolling out with their new laptops (like the dm3t and Probook 5310m), I'm seriously looking at getting a HP to replace my old computer. However, I've been reading about there being a lot of Fan Noise problems with their laptops. Specifically, I've heard that the fan is always on and blowing, even when the laptop is idling. How prevalent is this, especially in the dm3 (for those already with one), and the Probook line (I'm looking at getting the 5310m)?

I know the DM3 bios has an option to disable the "Always On" option for the fan. Can't say for certain how effective it is, though. Will let you know once mine arrives!

Interesting. Thanks for the offer. I'm really sensitive to fan noise b/c I work in a really quiet place and a laptop that's just constantly blowing is way too much of a distraction. I don't care if the fan activates under load, but when I'm just web-browsing or spreadsheeting, I don't want the fan blowing.

My HP G60's BIOS had the 'Fan Always On' option enabled by default.
I disabled it, and the fan hardly comes on now
are HP laptop Fan Noise problems prevalent?
