I saw a compaq V3710TX model this moring and the spec was almost the same as my DV2760, and wondering if the compaq is the same computer as my HP without Lightscribe , Wifi N, Giga bit LAN, Webcam and the AL speakers?
The Compaq spec:
T8100 2.1ghz, 2gb ram, 160gb hdd( 5400rpm Hitachi), NV8400GS with 128mb gddr3, DVD DL, 14.1 inch WXGA, 2.4kg.
my HP spec:
T8100 2.1ghz, 2gb ram, 160gb hdd, NV8400gs with 128mb gddr3, DVD DL with Lightscribe, BT2.0 EDR, 4965 AGN, Gigabit Lan, Pavillion web cam (love this camera very clear and sharp pictures),14.1 inch WXGA,2.4 kg.
The size and weight of these 2 models are very similar or the same.
and is there any similar compaq in US now?
Oh I forgot the Compaq comes with XP pro and I am thinking of getting it for my friend for his law school.
-
-
forgot their prices are very different , the HP costs 38900baht (1300Us or maybe more) while the Compaq costs only 29800 baht (980).
-
Yep, they are pretty much the same aside from a few extras and aesthetics.
I'm surprised that the Compaq has the 8400M GS, as they rarely are seen without integrated graphics (in the US anyway). Frankly, I miss the brand presence here..... -
yeah you are right, this is very new jsut out a week a go.
And this is a new series called Pressario gaming series , there are 3 models and only these 3 compaqs have the NVIDIA :
1 V3703TX: Pentium DC T2370 , 1gb, XP sp2,160gb, NV8400GS with 128mb GDDR3. (about 600US)
2 V3709TX: T5550, 2gb,xp SP2, 160gb, NV8400GS with 128mb GDDR3.
(about 750 Us)
3 V3710TX: T8100,2gb, XP SP2, 160gb, NV8400GS with 128mb GDDR3.
(about 950US)
But can you tell me why Compaqs are so cheap comapred to similarly sppeced HPs?
because they have XP SP2 ? or because they dontr have the lightscribe feature and Webcam with Altec Lansing speakers?
Hope I can install Vista SP1 if I buy it for my friend(I use it mostly any way). -
Contrary to popular belief, the Compaqs are not always cheaper. In some instances, the Compaq can actually cost more than it's HP counterpart (with the V6700TX coming to mind).
It is just a matter of timing, and what random deals HP puts out.
As for Vista SP1, yes it can be put on the Compaq (as it shares the same basic internals)...... -
Thank you for your reply R4000.
I will buy it and install Vista SP1 or ultimate 64 that I got for free.
Take care. -
HP actually has a different strategy in Asian markets. Compaq is (was) a better-known brand than HP in Asia, hence there is a better selection of models in Asia compared to the US. HP has almost cannibalised the Compaq brand in the US. Most of HP's Asia-Pacific PC operations are former Compaq operations, hence the Compaq legacy is still pretty strong in these markets.
Compaqs are generally marketed as better value notebooks. That has been the strategy since the HP Compaq merger. -
Makes vrey sense , chrixx you sound very rational and what you siad makes very sense.
yeah all compaqs are priced very low for what they are , but like I said they lack entertaining features like Web cam ,AL branded speakers, Lightscribe and Verve color finish or like that.
And I 've heard that HP is the no1 in Asia because of these Compaq sells.
Thank you for your knowledge and clear opinion.
PS. does any one know why Compaq laptops come with XP SP2 in Asia and why ASUS F8SV and SN come with Linux Ubuntu?
Also all Acers sold here are Linux BE preinstalled. -
-
In Asia, you can not find Compaq 8510P or w with HD2600 , that's what I really want to buy , soI have to go for a DV line since no business notebooks with discrete graphics sold here.
Also, in Asia, 14.1s are the main stream notebooks and you rarely find a good 15.4 that I usually like to buy.
Oh well , 2 more years ,I will have to stick with a 14.1. -
are they same?
