Does it need update over the stock drivers and how would updates go with switchable graphics?

It didn't crash. The screen just went black. It has something to do with the dual GPUs.

Next update, just wait until the HDD stops working and do

    Windows key, right, enter

    to shut down

    yeah.

it has to do with the original drivers (10.3)

if you ever clean install, start out with the 10.6/10.7 hp drivers (8.742 or something not 8.713). The gpu will recover (won't stay as a black screen)

now though since you have 11.3 installed it won't do that anyway 'cause well, it's no longer on the old original drivers (well you kept the switchable stuff)

and yea I waited for the hard drive light to stop and turned off when it "crashed" but I guess I did early since it didnt update everything.

    yeah.

it's like that sometimes. you have to wait roughly 10 minutes (at least 5)

oh well, it shouldn't "crash" anymore.
