Hello all. I was a bit curious if anybody had any thoughts on which of these two cards would be bettter performers (factoring out the directx 10 feature on the 8400m). When I was looking at specs for the 8400m card I was hoping that would have a 128bit memory interface but instead it's stuck with 64. So what I'm curious about is whether the ati x1400 with 4 pipelines and 128bit memory interface would be comparable to/better/worse than the 8400m which has 8 pipelines but a 64bit memory interface. And by the way, I'd be looking at this from the standpoint of using Windows XP as my main OS of choice and not Vista if that makes any difference.

I realize there have been no official benchmarks done for the 8400m in a laptop but am curious if there were any educated guesses on this.

My main reason for asking is I'm on the fence of whether to get a dell inspiron 6400 with the ati x1400 or wait and see what comes of the hp 6500 once they offer the option for the 8400m card. With the dell I can get some nice hardware (for it's class) all for about 740 bucks with the coupon code and free shipping so it's been hard for me to hold out lately.

    Thanks in advance.

If you can hold out until early/mid-July, your money will be much better spent. Good things always happen to those who wait, and we're waiting on both 8M and Santa Rosa.

i think having 8 pipelines would have a bigger impact than the bit of the controller. 8400m should outperform the ati by quite a bit. but what do i know :p

Thanks for the reply guys. I think I will hold off as you suggested. Either way I noticed dell extended the coupon code through to the 31st anyway so I'm sure more content will be released about the dv6500 by that time which in turn will give me a better idea of what direction to go. I just wish they weren't to hush hush about it. :)

I'm telling you, being a notebook geek with money ready to go and following a carrot (dv6500) on a stick is just plain torture.

    Thanks again guys.
