Is anyone else with a HDX 18 or 16 getting kind of buzzy sound when certain frequences are played? I swear it sounds like a bad speaker or maybe something in the laptop has some acustic vibration or what.. but it really makes me a sad panda. I talked to HP support told them about the issue, certain songs (mp3 or cd) show it off more then others. They basically had me reinstall the sound card drivers twice and tell me there isn't anything wrong. I think its the sub thats doing it but its really hard to say. I can hear it (faint though) at %50 volume with bass and terrible set to 0. I tried the same song out on a friends 16 and i can hear the same thing, but he claims he isn't and audio file and can't tell the difference (not sure when i became one myself). Oh btw, with headphones the sound is perfect. No buzzing at all.

Is it just me? Has anyone removed the sub by chance? Honestly the sound quality makes me want to return this. :(

If your sub is having problems:

    Turn off your HDX18t
    Flip your HDX18t over
Locate the sub cover (it has one screw)
    Remove cover
Check Sub to make sure it is seated properly
    Reseat cover
    Fasten tightly
Run finger firmly along the lining to make sure it is firmly in place

If distortion continues, open it back up and pack it with a small bit of
sock material till the cover has a snug fit.

This not only produces a better, richer bass, but it will help prevent accidentally blowing out your sub.

I did a clean install of Vista, and my audio is crystal clear.

I had the same problem on my HDX 18. The vibration or distortion was coming from the subwoofer. The wires from the WLAN run right by it and they are also tagged 1 and 2. The "2" tag was touching the woofer box and causing the vibration. I tested the subwoofer when I had it out of the laptop and it tested OK using a different source, but the same CD that was causing the distortion. I also checked the top speakers as well and they are fine.

The other thing that was not quite right was the wires were not routed correctly from the subwoofer. There are small tabs to tuck the wires under and they were not in place. These wires may also have been partly to blame for this problem.

I carefully assembled the whole thing back together making sure that nothing was interfering with the subwoofer and that pretty much solved the problem. HP suggested to down load the latest sound drivers and I have not done that yet, but it is acceptable now.

It still does it ever so slightly, but not enough to bother me now. I may be able to correct this by tweaking the bass cut off and or adjusting the equalizer. :)
