When my notebook computer starts up there are weird symobls, patterns and error messages. It stops on a page that I am able to start up in safe mode only. The computer has been diagnosed by a computer tech to have a bad video card, NVIDIA GeForce Go 7600, but that it is attached to the motherboard and I need to replace the motherboard. HP wants to charge me $300.00, practically the price of a new computer. Is there any way to buy and install the motherboard that I need myself?

well, if they want to charge you "only" 300$ i think you are not gonna get that one cheaper.....

look at the price of the spare mainboard.... 836 $ link deleted

might be a little expensive , and maybe there are other shops that are selling the mainboard cheaper, but this one wants more than 500 $ more than HP.

is the laptop still under warranty ?

    EDIT :

i have just seen another shop , that offers the mainboard for 320 $. so basicly it´s the price that hp is offering :

    http://www.portablecomponentsforall.com/pavilion-dv8000-series-motherboard-430180001-p-41202.html

but this shop does not install the mainboard. HP would do all that for 300$ ?

btw i removed the first link, since they are way overpriced. i do not want anybody to read that link here or in the google cache, since i don´t like to "assist" in ripping people off.
