Depends on the laptop. Some laptops have modular bays, where u can swap out the optical drive with a second battery.

for thin and light laptops such as V2000/L2000 series, I believe only a third party external battery is possible as a 2nd battery.

I have a Dell Inspiron Laptop... kinda old one(at least 5 years).. you can plugin DVD/CDwriter drive, Floppy drive, 2nd battery, or 2nd harddrive.

So, it depends on the laptop.. and the maker on what accessories they make available.

No HP/Compaq notebooks produced right now have a swappable bay.

Oh, I have no knowledge of HP/Compaq business notebooks, but I know that none of their home user notebooks have swappable bays.
